The Big Dog Park In The Sky

Buddy made many doggie friends in his short life, but none were closer to him than these two: Mickey, his very first pal, and Reggie, his 'step brother.' It feels like just the other day I was putting this page up for them on my old site. It was so sad remembering the two of them and wishing that Buddy could have his friends back. And now, Buddy has joined them...

Mickey Mickey

Mickey was Buddy's very first friend. This pint-sized pooch was also his neighbor. Whenever Buddy was out in the yard he'd listen for the door to open next door. He'd always be watching and waiting for his pal to make an appearance.

Mickey and Buddy would take daily romps in the park, or visit with each other. They'd play tag in our yard until they both dropped from exhaustion. Mickey was a fiesty little thing. His legs were tiny, but he always managed to hold his own.

Mickey was also taken from us suddenly and tragically. One morning he was taking a walk with his owner, when he slipped out of his collar and ran straight into the street. Mickey was no more than ten inches tall...the lady behind the wheel never saw him coming.

For a long time, Buddy would go out to the yard, look over at the next house and wait and wait for Mickey to come out. He never did. Mickey was 3 years old when he left us.

Reggie Reggie

Reggie was a beautiful apbt/doberman mix. He came into Buddy's life shortly before Mickey's death. They all became friends and formed an inseperable pack. The three would run and play together in the park accross the street, and in our yard. After Mickey died, Reggie and Buddy became closer. Reggie's dad and I also became very friendly...so they'd spend an enormous amount of time together.

Reggie's death was especially tragic, because it could have been avoided so easily. He was always pretty stuborn (not to mention poorly trained) and did as he wished most of the time. Knowing this, his owner let him off leash to play with his neighbor's Dobie on the sidewalk. Well, the other dog strolled onto the steet and Reggie followed. A van sped by the dobie and rammed right into Reggie. He was killed nearly instantly, and the driver never looked back. Reggie was just shy of 10 months old at the time of his death.
