APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

When filling out an application form ALWAYS

  • Read the entire application before entering data
  • Make a photocopy of the original form and use it as a rough draft
  • Type out your final copy or print with black ink
  • Use your personal student record sheet to help you remember all your activities and achievements
  • Fill in every section (if something does not apply to you write N/A)
  • Be honest
  • Always put your name on top of every page (especially essays)
  • Include everything, even the smallest things (and make them sound important!)
  • Make sure you have enclosed all the documents requested (application form, essays, student transcript, etc.)
  • Deliver it in a folder

When filling out an application form NEVER

  • Soil or wrinkle the papers
  • Have dog-eared corners
  • Eat and/or drink while applying
  • Write with colourful inks (such as red, purple, green) - Stick with blue or black ink
  • Use cursive writing
  • Leave it to the last minute

Pay special attention to application deadlines. With the large number of applicants, organizations will usually not bother processing applications after the deadline. To ensure that your application is delivered and processed on time, mail your application at least three weeks in advance, if you are using regular 'first-class' Canada Post. If you are using a courier service, mail it at least one week early.

Good Luck!
