Summary

The troopers make a double loop in their Dixie Triangle odyssey, we're back in Florida? Oh, like I didn't tell you that already!

Analysis

It appears that Bumpkin has become RR's equivalent to RW's MElissa in terms of character focus every other week or so.

Here Bumpkin hijacks the episode to reveal that he's not exactly the athletic stud that James and Laterrian are; gee, he could've fooled me, especially given his performances in past physically challenging missions. So what the heck is he talking about? I guess the producers are trying to draw a correlation between this plot thread and this week's mission, where the troopers take part in a free-dive competition with their trainer and latest welfare recipient, Mengan Greer who currently holds the free-diving record of 180ft.

First the troopers each take a casual shallow water dive in 40ft. of water just to see how far they can go before pressure sets in. From there Mengan ups the ante by requesting that the troopers add at least 3ft. on to their respective record depth for tomorrow's dive in 240ft. of water--which will not only count for points, but will also reveal their next clue as well (via little flags placed at their inscription depth): and when I say "clue" I mean like the one's we used to get in the good old days; not a blow-by-blow instruction to your next destination!

However, a potentially dangerous side affect of free-diving is "shallow water black out," therefore anyone who blacks out will get slapped with a disqualification. So going back to my original topic, Bumpkin chooses this moment to get all Jacques Custo on us and boast that he'll shoot for 35ft. over the 25 advised by Mengan. Hungry for some attention, Folly protest that Bumpkin should keep his ego in check because if he fails he could sink the entire mission. And as much as it pains me to say this... I have to agree with Folly's contention, especially given Bumpkin's last stellar performance after thumbing his nose at Folly's advice to tone it down. But fortunately for Bumpkin lighting doesn't strike twice!

So one-by-one, the troopers manage to grab their little flags, which all together form one single flag signaling their next destination. Then the troopers go and disgrace the American educational system by failing to recognize which country it represents. Eventually the troopers pretend to figure it out through their collective IQ, but in all likelihood full credit goes to the production staff for informing The Young & the Clueless that it's South Africa.

NEXT WEEK: The troopers tango with sharks and the editors finally show us a different side of M'saada.
