To get Quake II Multiplayer to work on your computer, follow these steps:
- Download the needed
Patches. It is required to use Multiplayer over the Internet
(Keep checking back for the latest updates).
Put the patches in your Quake II folder and install them. WARNING!!: Once you
install this patch, all of you previously saved games won't work.
- Find a Server to play over. A Server is the computer that hosts your
game. It keeps track of all of the players positions and stats and sends it
back to you. You conect to a Server through an IP address, which is the
location of that Server on the World Wide Web. See the
Servers page for a list of good servers. You
should write down a few of them in case some of them are down.
- Now, make sure you have a connection to the Internet through your ISP.
- Get into Quake II.
- Go to the Multiplayer section in the main menu.
- If you like, you can customize your player under the Player Setup Menu.
-
Next, go to the
Join Network Server option. You should see the items Address book, Refresh
Server List, and Connect To...followed by a bunch of mesages that say .
-
You will need to go to the Address Book. Once you are in the Address Book, enter the IP
address of the Servers you will be playing over in the boxes. After you enter
the IP addresses, hit ESC to bring you back to the join server menu.
-
Go to Refresh Server List to display the names of the Servers you entered and how
many players are currently on that Server and what its maximum capacity is.
If you get a message next to it that says Wrong Version, then you do not have
the Quake II
patch correctly installed.
- Make sure the Quake II CD is in your CD-ROM drive, then go to the Server
you would like to play over and hit "Enter".
- Happy Quaking!!
