| | And now for the page that everyone has been waiting for!!! Are you tired of getting fragged on-line? Can't seem to kill a
certain type of bug? Can't get the hang of landing on platforms?
Or just want to know how to improve your score?
Then this is the page for you!
After reading, studying and memorising these tips, just maybe,
you'll finally be able to beat that smart a** on the IGZ.
Got a tip or strategy that you want to share? Submit it here and
let others know how smart you are! :)
- Conserve your ammo - Soften up the bugs with your heavy
weapons, but then switch to the pulse-rifle to finish them
off. If you run out of rifle charge, switch to auto-rifle of
flame-thrower while the rifle recharges. It may take longer to
get the kill, but you will have more heavy ammo for the
other bugs. (mikemuck)
- Use your jet pack - Don't forget to use the verticle when
firing on the bugs. Strafe left and right, but also use your jet
pack. Flying and shooting takes practice, but it will pay-off
in the long run. (mikemuck)
- Keep to the high ground whenever possible, particularly in
the larger cave areas where visibility can be poor and you
need to be ready for anything--walk high on the side walls
and you'll survivability will increase dramatically. You'll stay
out of range of a lot of the lobbed weapons and you'll have
great visibility for sniping, which you should do whenever
possible. Take the high ground take your time (if you have
it to take) killing off resistance. Soldiers that just go
charging in to fights will find themselves hitting that f2 key
over and over. (anonymous)
- Weapons selection - Be sure to pick weapons applicable to
the world and game type you are playing. If you expect a
lot of people to be using glider wings, be sure to take
guided missiles. Cluster grenades are great for the interior
levels. It isn't that hard to figure out, just take the time to
think about your weapon choice each game. (anonymous)
- Gauss cannon - The Gauss cannon is probably my favorite
weapon. It takes a lot of practice to master, but once you
have it down it is an immensely powerful weapon. Start by
picking people off when they are standing on top of pillars,
once you can do that reliably try for moving targets. One of
my favorite tactics is to drop down off of a pillar, or from
glider with guided missiles and gauss cannon firing.

- Mines - If you have proximity mines don't be shy about
dropping them. They only trigger on enemies, so you can
use them to secure areas. Lay 4 or 5 where you think
people will be. For example, respawn points, powerups,
key pillars, room entrances, places where people stop to
refuel jump jets, blue/red bases during capture the flag, etc.
(anonymous)
- Remote mine - Remember that if you drop a remote mine
and die before you detonate it, you will be able to trigger it
when you respawn. Think about that the next time someone
is killing you. Nothing is better than respawning in with an
armed mine sitting next to your enemy. (anonymous)
- Water - Water obscures vision, but not tracking. Lock onto
a target and you will know where to shoot. Take advantage
of your enemies slow down and poor visibility to finish
them off. Don't go into the water after them, kill them from
above the surface where you have the advantage. (anonymous)
- Never stand still - If you are standing still you might as well
paint a bullseye on your suit. Make people work for their
kill. (anonymous)
- Evading - If you are on the receiving end of the damage,
don't just stand and fight, try running backwards and firing.
Also remember to drop proximity mines, if they want to
chase you they have to pay the price. (anonymous)
- Stay on target - Lock on a target and finish them off. Don't
get distracted until your target is dead. You get points for
damaging people but kills are better. (anonymous)
- Run away - There is no shame in running from a fight. It is
even faster to fly/glide away to safety. Remember, "He who
runs away, lives to come back and kick a**". (mikemuck)
- Mines mines mines...
When it comes to self defense or keen land management,
mines are the key. Here are a few tips on how to effectively
utilize your mines.
1. What mine is for me? Well, first of never, ever choose
timed mines. They are set to go off in 10 seconds, but
unless you are VERY good at directing traffic with your
flechette cannon, they are otherwise worthless. Remember
the old question, "If a mime is falls down in the woods
does anyone hear it?" Well, if you can't see when or where
your timed mine is detonating it is tactically useless. Always
choose either proximity mines or remote mines.
2. In CTF, there is nothing more usefull than promximity
mines. Each base, in the trial version at least, has two main
entrances which are easily blocked by proximity mines.
These not only inflict rightous damage, but serve as an early
warning system. Another fine place for these nasty little
bitches is surrounding your own flag. Put them right on top
of the base! But remember, it takes quite a few (like > 4)
mines to destroy a healthy marine in dreadnaught armor.
3. Be sure to always equip your armor with remote mines.
These have a number of uses. The best use I've had for
these is bush-wacking an opponent. When you have your
ECM masked, it is easy to trail an opponent. This will allow
you to set remote mines, and observe their locations until
the hapless victim comes too close. Since you can drop
remote mines, choose to shoot another weapon, and then
return to detonate the remote mine...this tactic is very
versitile and has proved its effectiveness a number of times.
I also have found that remote mines are the best weapon for
shaking people off your tail. Since you control their
detonation, it is easy (and helpful) to drop a mine, fly
upwards immediately, and destroy it--hopefully getting your
trailing opponent within its blast area.
4. The final, and most fun, use of remote mines is a
death-from-above tactic. Fly over the heads of your
opponents, or run in front of their projected path, and drop
a mine. I have had great success with this tactic, especially
since remote mines can be detonated before they hit the
ground!!!
I hope this suggestion prove helpful. Happy hunting,
marines dismissed...(Sgt. L0cutus)
- Outwars has a complex control scheme, so time spent
customizing it to your playing style is time well spent. I like
to use the mouse and keyboard. I've mapped all the
important keyboard commands to the numeric keypad, and
use it for things like forward/backward, strafe, target
selection, center view, glider wings. I can keep my left hand
on the keypad and my right on the mouse and access all the
needed keys. (anonymous)
- Falling - Remember it is faster to go down than go up.
When you are flying and trying to evade someone, don't try
to fly up, just fall. Turn off your glider wings, and you can
drop like a stone. Also remember that if you are falling and
out of jump jet fuel, a quick tap on the glider wing key will
save you the damage. (anonymous)
- Suits - The heavier suits are easier to lock onto, slower and
have less jump jet fuel. Think about the level, and how you
plan to play the game when selecting your suit. It isn't
always the best choice to take the biggest heaviest suit.
(anonymous)
- Jump jet landings - The main key to jump jet landings is to
look down as you try to land. You may also try the 'far
third person view' (F7) and turning off the hud (H). In this
view mode, you can actually see your feet. (mikemuck)
- Normally, I would not be promoting a cheat that gives some
users an unfair advantage in an on-line game. This cheat is
already know by enough people, that it only makes sense to
let everyone know about it.
This cheat will allow you access to all armor types and all
weapons in the demo version. When selecting an item
(armor type), click on the last visable option (ie Combat
suit), and then press the down arrow key. You should now
see the other two armor types in the list. This same
procedure works when selecting weapons.
