I
enjoy playing computer games, and so this page is an homage of that fact.
I know of a few good sights that have lots of info on the newer games, on
almost all the platforms out there. By far, however, the best sight is Happy
Puppy.
Well,
the game that I play most often now is NASCAR Racing 3, from Papyrus
Software . This game is technically a racing simulator, but it is fun
and you can play it online. It is very time consuming, due to the fact that
more time is spent setting the car up than actually racing it. It is an awful
lot of fun, however, and I get (almost) as much enjoyment out of the car-tuning
aspect as the actual racing. I have a small section dedicated to it here.
Need
For Speed is another online racing game which I have presently had enough
of. There is a very well-done (albeit unofficial) site for info and tips about
the game (created by Anarcadian) called Need For Better Speed. This
site has a lot of information about different aspects of the game, mostly
dealing with the multiplayer issues, bugs, and quirks of playing at EA
Racing Online (BETA). There are many sites out there pertaining to the
NFS series, and High Stakes in particular, but I don't use modified cars,
and as this is what most of these sites are about, I have chosen not to link
to them as of yet. It seems many people are into finding newer cars made by
fans of the game, and that is great. But as I play mostly online, and EA has
asked that the use of Modified/Hacked cars cease immediately, you're on your
own for the time being. You could always go to Anarcadian's site for the links,
though.
I
have a mini-page of my own dedicated to NFS: HS.
However, it is a work in progress, so I apologize for it's incompleteness.
I will update it as I find time. I hope to put lots of screenshots from the
game there, as well as maybe some replays of parts of tracks for people to
learn some of the tougher lines in the various tracks. But that won't be for
a little while, anyhow.
I
also like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six.
It is based (loosely) on the novel by the author Tom Clancy. It is a first
person shooter game by nature, but there is also a thrid person view. A good
site for info on this game is Rainbow
Six Net. The sequel is out now, and I have not seen it yet, but reviews
are a mixed bag of tricks. I am sure that Rainbow Six fans will not be dissapointed
by Rogue Spear (the game's title).
I
also have a few games by LucasArts.
One of which is Star Wars: X-Wing
Alliance. Their newest release, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine,
is a Tomb Raider-esque game, but with the original Tomb Raider character himself.
Both games are very well done.
FreeSpace2
is another game which has raised the bar for space simulators, although my
internet connection is not fast enough to play online, which is a shame as
I really enjoyed this game in single player mode. I tried online
and gotted fragged about 10 times, while managing only 3 kills, and that is
not indicative of my FreeSpace2 ability (not to take anything away from the
guys fragging me.) But there is only so much info a 31200 connection can handle,
and this game pushes 56K connections to their limits...
I really enjoy
playing sports games and simulations. One of the best flight simulator games
I have is Fighter's Anthology. It's not the most realistic
FS, but it is really cool anyway. Antoher Janes release is F-15,
which is touted as being the most realistic flight sim ever developed for
home-users. It is extremely well-done, although possibly a bit dated sue to
it being released almost two years ago. The graphics were cutting edge at
the time of release, and they are still pretty darn cool compared to today's
standards. Along the same vein, and also from Janes, is World War II Fighters. This game has some
very cool graphics, although only the fastest systems with a top of the line
video accelerator will be able to keep up.
Are
you into sports? Well, as I am a big hockey fan, Electronic Arts (what a surprise)
has their newest release of the NHL series, NHL
2000. This game is pretty wild, and you can even import faces so that
you could put yourself in the game. Once again, EA Sports has raised the bar
in hockey games, and there is the ability to play online as well. Maybe we
can match-up some time. I love that game.
As
I find cooler web site addresses, I'll put them here.
