News

2-3-00
The Bruins suspended Joe Murphy for insubordination to management. Apparently, during the Toronto game, Murphy was sick with the flu, played about 5 minutes of the first period, then had some words with Coach Burns, and was benched the rest of the game. The Assistant GM the next day announced that Murphy was suspended indefinitely for "insubordination detrimental to the team". Murphy's agent said that there was a slim possibility that Murphy could play for the Bruins again, but this leads to the impression that he meant either the coach goes, or Murphy goes...just what the B's needed, another Oates...

Game Recaps for the month of February, 2000

2-8-00: T 2-2: at Boston
The Bruins had a lead, but were unable to keep the Capitals from stealing a tie and a point. The Bruins posted 51 shots on backup goalie Craig Billington (an ex-B.) while the Caps were only able to muster 15 shots on Dafoe.

2-3-00: W 4-2: at Boston
The Bruins are undefeated in the month of February. Dafoe played well this game, and the Bruins defense played well overall. Sergei Samsonov had a big game, and things are starting to settle down in the locker room apparently after the suspension of Joe Murphy...

2-1-00: T 4-4: at Ottowa
Ray Bourque scored the Bruins only powerplay goal in the third period to give the Bruins a 4-3 lead with a little under 8 minutes to play inthe game, but Rade Bonk scored with 33 seconds left in regulation to give the flu-ridden Senators a tie and another point in the Eastern Coference standings. Ron Tugnutt played well making 38 saves on the night. Dafoe also played well, making 24 stops for hte B's. Rob DiMaio and P.J. Older (Preseason) News

9-30-99
The Bruins went through preseason undefeated, with 2 ties and six wins overrall for the 1999-2000 preseason schedule. Openning game is October 2, 1999 for the Bruins 99-00 season in Boston vs. the Carolina Hurricanes.

9-15-99
The Bruins have signed Dave Andreychuck (formerly of the New Jersey Devils) to a one year contract. He is to carry a lot of the load the Dmitri Kristich was carrying during last season. Kristich led the Bruins last year with 29 goals. Andreychuck ahs played for Pat Burns in Toronto, and is impressed with the Bruins club and the current roster and expects himself to have a productive season in Boston.

8-15-99
Well, Pat Burns' second year was not much of a surprise to anyone who knows of his talent. Joe Thornton has become a major presence in the roster, and Sergei Samsonov is going to be a player to watch. The Bruins have signed everyone they wanted to except for one major player: Byron Dafoe. This could hamper things if he is not signed, because not only will he go somewhere else (where the Bruins would have to play against him,) but also because of the outstanding season he had last year. Hopefully things will work out and Lord Byron will be signed to a contract by the time that the regular season starts.

PRESEASON NOTE:
As they work to improve their offensive firepower, the Bruins have also come a ways in defence. I mean, Raymond Bourque is not getting any younger, and although he could play another 5 years, he will retire soon and the Bruins are going to need to replace him (not that he IS replaceable.) Kyle McLaren, when healthy, is very good, and then there is Hal Gill. A player who is huge, and skates well. Should be fun to watch some of the younger guys develop into real big-time players. And with Bourque teaching them, they should do well.
