- Description:
- Adansten was settled by Belaran explorers early in the New Age. With most nations struggling in their recovery from the War of the Winds and the Time of Rains, the colonization of a new country was an enormous undertaking. But the lucrative merchant trade between the Belaran and Tulmarian states offered fantastic rewards for those willing to accept the challenge. Ironically, the name Adansten is of Tulmarian origin. To promote Belaran acceptance of the Tulmarian people, and thus, Tulmarian imports, this new Belaran country was given a name which would be unmistakably associated with the Tulmarian foreigners.
- Adansten is primarily an agricultural nation. It lies upon a peninsula which extends down between the Brine Sea and the Gulf of Ronj' Rulaab. It is connected to southern Kaladia by a narrow stretch of land which was excavated during the construction of the Great Canal. The neck of Adansten, as this is locally called, provides ships passage from the Brine into the Gulf without the necessity of traversing the Tracene Ocean. Adansten possesses considerable resources of rich, fertile lands found in both the flat coastal regions and the inland mountains. It has numerous seaports along the Brine, the Gulf and the Tracene. Most of these ports have flourished considerably since the decline of the Corlennian Empire.
- Adansten is a free nation and, by and large, its citizens are happy and peaceful. Temples of Whogam are common, and are found in the larger cities as well as farming communities. Most of the lands of Adansten are the properties of wealthy lords, but their noble titles are a failed Belaran attempt to copy the Tulmarian feudal monarchy, and alone have little genuine authority.
