Lost Realms
- Description:
- The lands which would eventually become the Marankarian Territory were originally settled by Tulmarians. These settlers were amongst the first Tulmarian pioneers to sail from Tulmaria to colonize the newfound continent. The Territory of Marankarian contains the first Tulmarian settlement of Kaladia, the city of Kolbador. During this era, however, the realm was New Ruthanland. It was as a result of the Dark Wars that the majority of New Ruthanland's western expanse was lost to become the Corlennian Empire's Marankarian Territory.
- Presently, Marankarian is a country slowly tearing itself from the imperial grasp of the Corlennian Empire. The Empire's gradual decline has given the Territory cause to expand its resources, and secure its own self-reliance. Since the Battle of the Moons of Blood, caravan safety along the imperial trade-way has improved markedly. With assured traffic through to the Northern Reaches restored, Marankarian is again regaining its merchant prosperity. And to be certain, the alleviation of the Corlennian trade conscription has helped enormously.
- As part of New Ruthanland, the lands of Marankarian were predominantly agricultural. In this era, the grassy plains were speckled with thriving farming communities. But to the victor went the spoils of war, and most of the Corlennians who now live in the Territory do not enthusiastically pursue farming careers. Nonetheless, there are wealthy landowners among the Corlennian populace who fancy themselves as gentlemen farmers. Most of the farmland has now become plantations worked by slave labor, and also, many of the Magistracy's poorer free men were farmers.
- Marankarian has many architectural wonders which originate from its Tulmarian period through to present day. The capitol city of Marankarian is the finest example, for it was carved almost entirely into the granite face of the vast cliff known as Stone Ledge. Throughout the Territory there are many finely preserved Tulmarian strongholds. And during the Corlennian governorship of Marankarian, the Corlennian task masters were not reluctant to expend their slave labor force to construct monuments and temples to Mharow the Elder.
