ey Skills & Personal Traits

I have direction and focus in the things that I do. I am willing to go the extra mile in order to ensure that my work is of the highest possible quality. People have always found me patient, understanding and kind. I always have an ear to listen and if possible, perhaps offer a word of advice. My better traits that endear people to me are my helpfulness, truthfulness, reliability and my sincerity. From the positions of responsibility that I have been in over the years, I have learnt the values of respect, protocol, accountability, teamwork and co-ordination. I have also learnt the art of planning and strategic allocation of time.

By virtue of my sub warden position I have learnt how to liason with people who are many years my senior and people who are much younger than myself. I have no problems with taking orders from those who are more senior to me, and those who are under my charge seem to carry out my orders without problems as well. My seniors have always found me to be reliable, trustworthy and quick in response to requests. The first year students in my hall think of me not as a bossy sub warden but instead as a happy, always smiling, fun loving friend of theirs whom they get along with very well, despite the 5 year age difference.

My civil engineering course at Imperial College London has been particularly helpful in enforcing a sense of the importance of co-ordination, timing and team work. This is due to the fact that most of our bigger project are carried out in teams, and at times we have to team up with the people whom we are not accustomed with. Thus, I have gained the necessary skills of working alongside strangers or in an environment that I am not familiar with. In short, I have very good adaptability in the most adverse of environments.

I am a lively sort of character and people have always found me to be on the extroverted side. I project an air of subtle confidence around me, and in a task where the morale of the group has to be in check this could be a very crucial factor. I am cool headed in times of crisis and am able to think laterally to get around a problem. I am usually resolute in my ways and am able to take decisive actions based upon the information I have received. I am also a very resourceful person.

Personal Goal

When people tell me this: "My personal goal is to be a CEO of a company and make lots of money and be happy and rich." My response to them is usually a casual nodding of the head and a small smile would etch itself across my lips. I often ask myself, "Where are the days when people are promoted due to the sole cause of them doing a darn good job?" All throughout my life I have passed with this simple thinking, "If I do a good job and  I meet all the requirements that are set upon me, my superiors will see the value of my work, the contribution I have made, the creativity that I utilised. They will see me, and they will reward me, or reprimand me as they see fit."

This philosophy of mine has so far brought me through my journey through life, blessed with positions of leadership, I was the secretary of The QuarterMasters club in my secondary school, a year later, I was the Vice President, and a year later on, I was decorated with full colours from my secondary school for my contributions. I took an active role in sports, taking up the position of volleyball captain, and winning the first two places in the sports house competitions. I was also personally sought after by my secondary school headmaster to organise a team to completely refurbish the school's sports hall in preparation for the nation wide under 18 badminton tournament. Not only did we finish ahead of schedule but we manage to save 20% of what was budgeted for that refurbishment. In my first year at university I was elected as class academic representative, in the second year I was successful in applying for a re-app position in halls and in my current year I am now the sub warden in the same hall.

Now, the Question : "What is my personal goal?"

My answer would be this : "To be happy in whatever I do, where ever I am, whenever the time is." That is my personal goal in life, it may be very general, but its applications I am sure you will agree, are vast!

Thank you.
