For the Love of Goddess

Belldandy's still upset over the Almighty's decision to bring her back to heaven, and the weird cherry tree is still mysteriously freaking Bell out. Keiichi is miserable as well, and whenever he tries to go to Belldandy Skuld pops up and reminds him of all the bad stuff that happen when they get close. All this makes Keiichi all the more upset, not only is she leaving in a days, but he can't even spend time with her. He tries to leave her alone, but he can't. Keiichi waits outside the door because he needs to talk to Belldandy, but tells her to stay back and not open the door. He tells Belldandy that he's sorry for bugging her about the cherry tree that caused trouble earlier on.

Belldandy can't help choking up as Keiichi leaves the temple and starts working at his fifty billion part time jobs (the ones he took up in order to buy Bell the ring she wanted earlier). Belldandy's also working on a gift for Keiichi.. a sweater to keep him warm since she isn't able to anymore.

Skuld's happy about having Belldandy back in Heaven, but Urd tells her that for Belldandy's sake it's important that she help her stop the weird things going on with the cherry tree. Skuld eventually agrees and spends hours working on the computer. Belldandy manages to walk into the room while Skuld's in the middle of the plan, so Skuld tries frantically to cover up the project by switching the monitor off. But once Belldandy leaves Skuld begins crying coz she accidentally hit the power button, so now she's gotta start all over again...

Everybody's hard at work for the next few days, each doing their own little projects. Keiichi calls home to tell Bell that he won't be by for dinner that night, but she waits up for him anyway. He eventually crawls into the room and collapses in the door. Urd sends him to bed, and he dreams of all the fun times he's had with Belldandy.

By now Keiichi's got almost enough money for the gift, and tells Belldandy to wait before she leaves him forever. Urd and Skuld are out in the courtyard drawing a huge circle with pebbles and other weird shapes. Between them both they ought to have enough power to stop the bug problem with the cherry tree even though they're not supposed to use magic circles (goddesses do have rules to abide by, you know). Inside, Belldandy's removing all traces of herself from the temple, trying to erase anything that could remind Keiichi of her, except for the sweater, which she wraps and leaves on his desk. She then changes into her normal goddess fuku (the one we saw in the first episode). As she goes outside she realizes what Skuld and Urd are trying to do and warns them that they'll be punished if they keep it up.

Keiichi, in the meantime, runs to the jewelry shop and runs back home just as Belldandy's about to leave. As she floats heavenward on a ray of light, Keiichi tries to reach her, but he can't because the force is too strong. He tells her not to worry about keeping her promise to live with him forever, but that he'll keep his promise and give her the ring. He struggles with the powers working against him and keeps at it even tho he's getting blown back each time he rushes forward. Belldandy asks him to stop coz she doesn't want to see him hurt.

All of a sudden, an explosion occurs. Why? Coz Urd's spell has finally worked. After the flash of light we see Urd on the ground with Skuld, who's delirious and babbling about ice cream (they're both a li'l screwy at this point). Belldandy runs to Keiichi, who's lying unconscious on the ground. Belldandy thinks he's dead and begins to cry. Urd insists that he's not dead, but he will be soon if Belldandy doesn't help him, so she sends her spirit into him, trying to wake him up.

Memories in flashback form are passed to Keiichi, who begins to remember things from his childhood...

Keiichi was little (littler than currently) when he saw a bright light pouring down from the sky. As he ran over to see what it was, he found the light to be warm and comforting. He saw a little girl (Belldandy) standing beneath a cherry tree. Bell-chan asks Keiichi to be her friend. He accepts and together they spend the week playing together. They see a cart full of toys, and Bell-chan sees a ring (but Keiichi hasn't got the money for it). He asks her to meet him the next day and they pinky-swear to make it an official promise.

Belldandy didn't realize that as a goddess, she was too young to make those kind of promises. Her father got kinda mad at her and told her to erase Keiichi's memories of her. Li'l Keiichi is disappointed that Belldandy doesn't meet him the next day as planned. After looking around he finds her at a tree, crying. She tells him that she must erase his memory and he willingly lets her. Bell-chan touches his forehead gently and promises to return to him one day, even if he doesn't remember her.

We move back to the present and see Belldandy at Keiichi's side, reminding him of past events. She knows she'll have to erase his memory again, but Keiichi opens his eyes and asks Belldandy about being recalled. She doesn't know what to do, so she must ask her father what she's to do.

A lightning bolt hits the ground and engraves a message from the Almighty (Kami-sama). Urd goes to see what it is and reads "The leak of bugs to the human world is stopped, and 1st level, 2nd category Belldandy can stay on earth." Belldandy's super-happy, and she joyfully hugs Keiichi. Urd looks at reads more of the message; "2nd level 2nd category Urd uses a spell without permission is punished to stay on earth another 30 days. Skuld's training is to continue on earth, and she may not return to Heaven until she's taken care of all the bugs that have leaked out." So things are pretty much back to normal.

Keiichi finally manages to give Belldandy the ring, and Urd uses her magic to cover the cherry tree with Christmas lights as part of the celebration.
