Q Online - Transister

Debut from three-piece who sound an awful lot like Garbage. Transister covet the Garbage trick of marrying new technology, sex, songs and atmosphere. Former Danny Wilson/King L songwriter Gary Clark lends this Scottish/American band conventional tunes and the production conveys a modern metallic sheen but this is a sterile, homogenous-sounding record. Their biggest failing is the anonymity of Keely Hawkes' vocals, which fail to breathe any chemistry into the 11 tracks, including the passively attractive singles Look Who's Perfect Now, Dizzy Moon and the more upfront techno-thwack of Head. This year's Garbage soundalikes (female singer/male studio boffins) will soon be following last year's slew of trip-hop no-hopers (female singer/male studio boffin) down the dumper.
