TRIQUATRA AS WE KNOW IT
1901 - 2001 AD

By now the Portuguese had inhabited all of the neighboring islands, but still was not content and wanted Triquatra for its rich resources. In 1898 Triquatra realised that it was no match for the Portuguese power, they decided that a treaty must be negotiated for Triquatra's survival. The treaty involved Portugal protecting Triquatra in case of war against other countries in exchange for resources. As part of the treaty many Portuguese natives came to Triquatra to live and to find work. They also decided to move because of the beautiful climate and in order to escape the hard times Portugal were facing during this period.

For the next five years of the treaty being in place the Triquatreans were furious at how the Portuguese had invaded their land taking enormous amounts of their resources and forcing themselves onto the land. Triquatra had enough of the Portuguese and their invasion so the people rallied together in order to fight off them politically not physically. As five years had passed the time had come for the election of new elders, and for the first time in history all five were replaced, the people voted in new elders that were know for being very radical believing in looking to the future.
These new elders, lead by Cusitto Sorop, broke the treaty now controlling the migration and protection laws, which occurred in Triquatra. Because of this Triquatra was able to import and export resources from around the world, making a vast amount of money, which went to helping the people of the island.

Over the last fifty years many radical changes had happened in Triquatrean life but none like in 1968 when the people of Triquatra voted to change the rights of the people to form a constitution where all laws would be written and abided by. This way of thinking was brought about by a man who believed that this way of governing was unfair and outdated. His name was Giuseppe Tannica and he later became the first President. These new laws could not be changes unless a majority vote was found by the people. The population was now 349 000 and when the vote was take more then two- thirds voted yes. They also changed the elders to ministers and created a head of state, the President.

Triquatra now stands respected in the export world, it survives on trade mainly through diamonds, iron, marble and oil.
