Elijah Davis, b 1818, d 1883.

Elijah Davis is my ggg-grandfather born in Jessamine County, Kentucky in 1818. He was the son of James B Davis and Elizabeth Hawkins. He married Elizabeth Shoopman on 23 Aug 1837 in Cass County, Illinois. I am guessing that Elijah was 18 or 19 years old then and required a note of permission from his dad, James B Davis to get married before his 21st birthday. Elizabeth Shoopman was *18. Elijah Davis died in 1883 and is buried in Wills Cemetary-Peculiar Missouri. Link to Photo of their Grave Stones below. Elizabeth Shoopman was born 1822* in Tenn. and died 1905, buried Cass Co, MO.
Reference number *10. 1860 Census, Cass Co, IL, Page 48 showing Elijah Davis & family. Also shows remainder of family on 1880 Census for Cass Co., MO; same page
They had eleven children:
  1. Edward Davis, born 1838,
  2. William Davis, born 1840, d. 1920
  3. Hanna Davis, born 1841, d. 1922
  4. James Pope Davis, born 1844, d. 1906
  5. John Barton Davis, born 1847, d. 1920
  6. Sarah Elizabeth Davis, born 1850, d. 1937
  7. Cyrus Wright Davis, born 1851, d. 1925
  8. Charles Mason Davis, born 1860, d. 1886
  9. Susan Davis, born 1855,
  10. Francis Marion Davis, born 1859, d. 1922
  11. David Morris Davis, born 1865. his photo.

Elijah Davis' dad moved his family from Kentucky to Cass County, Illinois close to Beardstown and Virginia, Illinois in 1835. They lived near Keene, Kentucky prior to 1835. Elijah having been born in 1818 would have been about seventeen years old at the time they moved. He married Elizabeth Shoopman on 23 Aug 1837 in Cass County, Illinois. The dates on her grave stone indicate she was born 1822. Their marriage records indicate she was 18 years old on 23 Aug 1837 which does not seem to match the grave stone exactly. His father, James B Davis and Elizabeth (Hawkins)Davis, were buried at Clark Cemetary in Cass County, Ill. Randy Davis visited Clark Cem. and took photo of memorial headstone their son Edward Davis erected in 1883. Dates of birth and death were not on the stone unortunately.
