// Starsiege: Tribes

I often wonder if my life would be better if I had not discovered this game. That may sound silly, but judging from the amount of time I've spent playing Tribes, you'd understand. When I first discovered Tribes, I was addicted from the get go. I played all day and all evening on weekdays, and all night on the weekends... but then again, this is Alaska and it was winter time... my entertainment options were pretty much limited to what I could do in my house. The biggest part of why I liked playing Tribes was that 10+ friends from school were all playing too, most of which played at the same time after school. This was cool cuz I got to know them better after playing together with strategical planning and whatnot. Once all my real life friends stopped playing, that's when I ceased to enjoy this game. I played it for some time afterwards, but it was no secret that I didn't enjoy it.

So, about the game! You play some futuristic warrior guy (or gal) with weird weapons and work in teams to capture the other team's flag (usually), and kill people... and stuff. Doesn't sound too spectacular eh? Well, it was at first... that's about all I can say. Unfortunatly, I got mixed in with competition, and that ruined everything. Once you start to meet the people that play this game, you'll find egos out the ying yang, and two scoops of pathetic people. It's more frustration than it's worth. I know people that get REAL bent out of shape over this game, and it's really quite sad that a game can affect them like that.

I used to play Tribes every day, a long time ago. Although I keep in touch with some of my Tribes friends, the thought of playing this game for "fun" hasn't crossed my mind for the last year and a half. This game alone is what made me realize multiplayer gaming is bullshit. I'll stick to single player games from now on, with maybe a match or two of Unreal Tournament every month or so. I'll be the first to admit, I have no life, but spending all my time with a "tribes community" (laugh) didn't help anything.

So then Tribes 2 came out. I don't know if that game is good or not, and I don't care... it's just not for me. Go ahead, waste away your life in an endless battle of frustration and trash talking. But don't expect me to join you.

This game gets 7 / 10 stars.
