Advisory
Committees
Advisory committees or advisory boards are groups of people who
usually represent larger constituencies of interest, appointed
to provide comment and advice on an issue or project. Advisory
committees are usually asked to deal with more complex policy
development or planning issues over a long time frame. They may
not have representation from all affected parties and often are
designed to solicit the views of a particular sector. Advisory
committees are useful vehicles for organizing and coordinating
input from a wide range of people.
Round
Tables
Like advisory committees, Round Tables are typically formed to
deal with complex policy, planning or implementation issues. They
are specifically designed to have representatives of all the affected
groups at the table. Round Tables are especially useful for developing
consensus for action on complex issues. The selection of members
is critical and the terms of reference must be clear and agreed
to by all participants.
Monitoring
Committees
Monitoring committees are established to ensure that the implementation
of a project or policy is consistent with the solution proposed
during the initial public process. Monitoring committees are appropriate
vehicles for coordinating and conveying community concerns on
an ongoing basis throughout the life of a project. Typically they
represent all of the stakeholders.
