Playoff Round #3

#2 San Jose Sharks vs #6 Calgary Flames
Western Conference Finals - Sharks lose series 4-2

Western Conference Finals & Mike Ricci Game 6 - Calgary 3, San Jose 1
There would be no overtime on the ninth anniversary of the Sharks' double-overtime elimination of Calgary in the 1995 playoffs.

The best season in San Jose Sharks' history ended with a 3-1 loss in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals to the underdog Calgary Flames who are advancing to their first Stanley Cup finals in 15 years.

Alyn McCauley scored for San Jose late in the second period, but the best season in franchise history ended with back-to-back losses in the Sharks' first appearance in the conference finals. San Jose also lost its final four home games of the playoffs, running out of energy and focus despite its 104-point regular season and home-ice advantage in every round.

Game 5 - Calgary 3, San Jose 0
The Calgary Flames end their two-game skid as Miikka Kiprusoff sets a team record with his fourth shutout of the playoffs (besting Mike Vernon's 1989 club mark for playoff shutouts). The Flames defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-0 to take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference Finals.

Game 4 - San Jose 4, Calgary 2
Mike Rathje's first goal of the playoffs started San Jose's four-goal second period and Evgeni Nabokov made 27 saves in the Sharks' 4-2 victory over the Flames in Game 4. Captain Patrick Marleau snapped his scoring slump with a goal and an assist. Jonathan Cheechoo and Vincent Damphousse also scored in San Jose's second straight victory in front of the Flames' intimidating Saddledome crowd.

Game 3 - San Jose 4, Calgary 0
Evgeni Nabokov made 34 saves for his third shutout of the playoffs, and Alex Korolyuk had two goals and an assist on a Vincent Damphousse goal in the Sharks' 3-0 victory over the Calgary Flames in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals.

Game 2 - Calgary 4, San Jose 1
The Calgary Flames took control of the Western Conference finals and an improbable 2-0 series lead over the Pacific Division champion San Jose Sharks with a 4-1 victory in Game 2. Alyn McCauley scored for the Sharks.

Game 1 - Calgary 4, San Jose 3    (OT)
The Sharks set a franchise playoff record with 52 shots, however, Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 49 shots in the Calgary Flames' 4-3 victory as Steve Montador scored 18:43 into overtime. Mike Ricci, Todd Harvey and Alex Korolyuk scored the goals for the San Jose.

Playoff Round #2

SJ Sharks logo #2 San Jose Sharks vs #4 Colorado Avalanche
Western Conference Semifinals - Sharks win series 4-2

Game 6 - San Jose 3, Colorado 1
Second-seeded San Jose made good on its third crack at eliminating Colorado, which was trying to become the third team in NHL history to win a best-of-seven series after dropping the first three games. The Sharks scored three times in a span of just over 10 minutes during the second period with goals from Vincent Damphousse, rookie Marcel Goc (the game winning goal) and Jonathan Cheechoo.

Game 5 - Colorado 2, San Jose 1    (OT)
Colorado's Joe Sakic scored the game winning goal at 1:54 in overtime on a no look pass from Peter Forsberg as the Avalanche avoided elimination for the second time, beating the Sharks 2-1 to cut San Jose's lead to 3-2 in the second-round series. Vincent Damphousse scored the lone goal for the Sharks.

Game 4 - Colorado 1, San Jose 0    (OT)
Colorado's Joe Sakic picked up a loose puck and flipped a wrist shot past Sharks' goaltender Evgeni Nabokov 5:15 into overtime and David Aebischer stopped 27 shots for his first playoff shutout, helping the Avalanche avoid a sweep with a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Game 3 - San Jose 1, Colorado 0
Evgeni Nabokov stifled the Colorado Avalanche for the third straight game, stopping 33 shots to lift the Sharks to a 1-0 victory and within a game of their first trip to the conference finals. Vincent Damphousse flipped a behind the goal line shot off of Avalanche goalie David Aebischer's back and inside the left post to score the game winning goal with 11:01 left in the game.

Game 2 - San Jose 4, Colorado 1
Patrick Marleau scored his NHL-leading seventh goal of the postseason, and Jonathan Cheechoo scored a between-the-legs goal in the Sharks' 4-1 win over Colorado in Game 2 of the second-round playoff series. Vincent Damphousse and Wayne Primeau contributed goals for the Sharks.

Game 1 - San Jose 5, Colorado 2
Patrick Marleau had his second three-goal game of the postseason, and the Sharks scored three first-period goals in a 5-2 victory over Colorado in the opener of their second-round playoff series. The Sharks other goals were scored by Vincent Damphousse and Scott Hannan.

SJ Sharks logo #2 San Jose Sharks vs #7 St. Louis Blues
Western Conference Quarter Finals - Sharks win series 4-1

Game 5 - San Jose 3, St. Louis 1

Game 4 - San Jose 4, St. Louis 3
San Jose took a commanding 3-1 series lead on St. Louis behind two goals each from Scott Thornton and Alex Korolyuk, defeating St. Louis 4-3 in game four of the first round battle.

Game 3 - St. Louis 4, San Jose 1
The St. Louis Blues' late-season pickup, Mike Sillinger, had his first career three-goal game in a 4-1 victory over the Sharks, helping a much more disciplined team work its way back into the first-round series. Jonathan Cheechoo scored his first playoff and the lone goal for the Sharks.

Game 2 - San Jose 3, St. Louis 1
Patrick Marleau scored three goals and Evgeni Nabokov made 25 saves, leading the #2 seeded Sharks to a 3-1 victory over the undisciplined St. Louis Blues in Game 2 of their first-round series.

Game 1 - San Jose 1, St. Louis 0    (OT)
Rookie Niko Dimitrakos struck at 9:16 of overtime, firing a shot past goalie Chris Osgood to lift the Sharks to a 1-0 victory over the visiting #7 seeded St. Louis Blues in Game 1 of their Western Conference opening-round series at HP Pavilion.
