San Jose Sharks' 2004/2005 Season Cancelled
Doom and gloom hits the Bay Area as the NHL commissioner
Gary Bettman shuts down the National Hockey League
and cancels the 2004/2005 hockey season. This is a historic
event as the NHL is the first major North American sport league
to wipe out an entire season in a labor feud.
The owners and players' union could not decide how to divide
profits from a 2.1 billion-dollar industry but the league would
like to make a deal before the planned NHL Draft, scheduled for
June 25-26, 2005 in Ottawa.
The San Jose Sharks do not play a single preseason or regular season
hockey game during the 2004/2005 season and later perform the ugly
task of dismissing staffed employees.
