WATCHING TV WITH YOUR TODDLER

Counting after ABC in SchoolSo your toddler is fixated on Tweenies. Or maybe it is Noddy, or Maggie and the Ferocious Beast. Your reaction might be to a) worry about his addiction and try to divert her from it or b) be happy that the TV/tape is such a good babysitter and let her quietly watch away.

Here's a better option: watch the show with your toddler. Noddy is on every Saturday? Then sit with her and spend that half hour sharing the stories and songs. Not only does it allow you to monitor whatever your child is watching, it also makes for good interaction between both of you. There's plenty of scope for natural and uncritical conversations about the characters and content of the programme. Your child will enjoy asking you questions about things which puzzle her, and you will enjoy enlightening her. Reverse the roles and it is equally fun!

At the same time, your toddler enjoys rhymes, stories, activities and kiddy documentaries which are both entertaining and educational.
