EPILOGUE

Kit's funeral had been filled with people. I could still remember it, though it had been five years ago now. I would never forget my little sister and how special she was. I knew it had killed a part of Mama to lose both Jacob and Kit. She had nothing left of a husband she had loved dearly.
My father had become a part of my life. Mama had even forgiven him enough to let him be there during my labour and delivery of my own daughter, Kit. Of course I named her after my sister. Some people would think me sick to have named her Katharine Julianna. But somehow I felt that it was right. Julie had killed my sister. Why I had been inclined to name her after my sister's murderer, I didn't know. But no matter what, that is what I had done.
Somehow, I knew it was the end of the misery my family had been through. Karen had died of a heart attack only a year after she had left the house in anger, never to speak to my mother again. Julie had given away Celeste, and both had been sentenced to life in prison. Damian had long since disappeared, along with Annie. Many assumed that he had decided he liked younger women, and had wound up marrying her. If he had, he was with her because of the money she had inherited.
Maybe my family could finally be happy now. We were all incredibly close. And for five years things had been quiet and calm. Nobody was trying to kill anybody. I didn't have the feel of dread hanging over my head. I was pregnant with my second child. And everyone in my family, even my mother and myself, was ultimately happy.
