SKELETON

Axial skeleton: Bones of skull, vertebral column, ribs and sternum.

Appendicular skeleton: Bones of limbs.

Splanchnic/visceral skeleton: The bones present in visceral organs.

Exoskeleton: A hard structure developed on the outside of the body as the shell of a crustacean. In vertebrates the term is applied to the structures produced epidermis as hair, nails, hoof and teeth.

Endoskeleton: The bony and cartilaginous structures of the body, exclusively of mesodermal origin and embedded in softer tissue.
