The restaurant, Bridges in Avalon, was established in the early 60s by Frank and George Avalon, two brothers in their twenties. When Frank died, his share passed to his two children, Burke and Theodora. Burke has taken his father's place as manager, and Theodora may return to take George's place as chef.
Bridges has become a Victoria landmark, a favored location for young and old. Inside it offers both a quaint pub and a comfortable yet classy restaurant offering a wide menu range. Either room can be reserved for private parties or receptions and is popular for such. There is a Celtic/Scottish theme throughout, and the waiters and waitresses wear kilts. Outside, Bridges is located on pristine oceanfront property in a quiet bay. Originally a turn-of-the-century home, the Avalon brothers converted it to a restaurant and added their own decorative yet tasteful touch when they bought the house and property. It's now known for its trademark decorative bridges, including a wide arched bridge leading to the front door and a semi-circle walkway attached to the main dining room and overhanging the ocean bay. Following part of the story of the mythical island of Avalon, the Avalon family has filled a great part of its property with an apple orchard containing a wide variety of trees. With a reservation, Bridges offers its exterior setting for free to groups wishing to use it as a backdrop for pictures.
Bridges in Avalon has long been the location for the annual graduation celebration of the Stancliff Academy.
