July  Headline:  Farewell to our founders of Sapporo Pioneers

29th Sapporo Toastmaster meeting

Kaderu Hall 6F Josei Plaza

New officers were elected:

We are now blessed with the longest comfortable summer daylight and thickest green foliage, while heat-wave spells are hitting Honshu. Although on the night of the second Wednesday meeting it rained cats and dogs, nine members and a guest were present. The meeting started with President Shiina's very friendly and stimulative talking.

Business Session:

Since the business session contained a lot of technical terms of PC, we discussed agendas in Japanese for techno-illiterates.

1. Newsletter

Members basically wanted to publish newsletter and to keep the style of homepage made by Davis. With help of computer-experts (Osaki, Komata, and Takase), Ando will succeed to the work. Komata offered her cooperation to make the switchover a success.

2. Recruit

One of members tasks is to let people know the benefit of being TM club members in order to recruit. Meeting many people with different opinions and ideas is delightful. One way of publicizing our regular meetings is to apply for "Doshin Paso," free personal ad corner. VP Public Relation (Konishi) will be in charge of this.

3. Meeting place

We talked about cheap and convenient places for regular meetings. Higuchi suggested that a fixed meeting place should be ideal to advertise the meeting.

Welcome New Member!

Hiroko Kamo, Welcome to Sapporo Pioneers. We are very happy she was interested in our meeting. She promised to come the next meeting.

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING LATELY . . .

Report of 08July Meeting

Today'sword:

"Communicate" (communication, communicative) is a key word to get along and to survive this complicated world. Languages are means for communication. Drinking is helpful for nominication , however, it is not a tool for the best communication. Do you agree to this?

At Opening Thought: Wu introduced funny and somewhat sad stories "Good News or Bad News for You.

"Table Topic Session

Takase took the floor. "What was the most impressive feast you have ever had?" Ando's favorite foods are tuna and flat fish and she dislikes abolone, squid and octopus. Osaki has a sweet tooth, especially icecream. Komata is fond of Japanese cuisine. Higuchi quoted proverb "hungry is the best spice" and talked her experience of outdoor cookings in her student days. Yamada will never forget the taste of bread which she ate with her son in Greek. Foods strengthen her family tie.

 Current Issue Session:

This session has changed its name from CT Session to Current Issue Session. Higuchi presided the session as a substitute CT Master. The theme was "Lingerie-look Townwear." It is now in fashion. Nishimori discribed the situation of clothing in her university and her friends. Most members were for the fashion as to prices or its comfortableness. Two male members seemed indifferent to the trends. (???)

Prepared speeches:

Yamada made her fourth speech titled "Do you speak in your natural voice?" She mentiond the exterior and interior personalities in one Japanese. Which is often criticized as double standards. It also causes problems domestic as well as outside Japan. Furthermore double standards would widen generation gaps.

Second speaker was Higuchi's impromptu speech. She is desperately preparing interview test for Eiken, we believe that she will be succesful in it. Her speech title was "Go to Vote, don't Abstain."
