The Week In Review

12-31-2000

Weekend -- more minor cleanup outside.

1-1-2001

Emptied Hannah's former room in anticipation of stairs installation and ceiling removal.

Vess Cola bottles went out back.  Old waterbed went downstairs. Stroller went to be donated.

Carpenters putting sheathing on outside of Breakfast Room.

 Windows being crane-lifted up

Both bathroom windows were not the right size, so sent them back (Got right size delivered and installed later)

Pi and the backyard -- complete with an "Easter Island" concrete block

1-2-2001

Shingles stacked on the roof - ready to go on soon. Before chimney extended up.

Carpenters finished installing the Trex decking and 4x4 posts for the wrap-around porch.

Knocked down the ceiling in Hannah's old bedroom and part of her wall into the hall.

Installed the stairs from the main level all up the way to the attic.

One window still not installed yet, (using it to get in and out), so very drafty upstairs.

Cold night until I put a tarp across the stairway hole to the new addition and blocked the hallway with boxes.

1-3-2001

Carpenters installed the porch roof and posts for the the wrap-around porch.

Knocked down the rest of Hannah's wall and the wall between Tim and Liz's bedroom.  What a mess.

Spent evening cleaning up dust and debris inside the old bedrooms and heater vents.

Another cold night -- everyone slept downstairs with 3 DeLonghi heaters running.

1-4-2001

Brock railings were installed on the wrap-around porch.  Looks GREAT !!!

The wrap-around porch is done except for re-locating the hose bib and adding the lattice.

Needed to remove another 2 bushes -- this time at the base of the chimney.

Carpenters wrapping up.  Built stairs down from the front porch and from both sliding doors.

Placed the 2 sliding doors from the Breakfast room.

 1-5-2001

Electricians scheduled to fix the wires dangling from demolished walls and to start wiring of the addition.  They were no shows -- maybe next week.

Chimney started to be built up above the addition.  Workers left before noon when the snow started (and after they got paid for the materials).

They need to re-build some of the old chimney -- had a section where you could see the flue from the inside.

Door onto porch scheduled to be cut out from Tim's bedroom window, but delayed due to "snow storm" -- almost a whole inch of snow.

Selected the siding style and color for the upper part of the house. (wood-grain 4" white)

1-6-2001  Could not string the Cat-5 wiring for the computers since electricians have not started their wiring.

Wrapped the stairway with 4mil plastic sheeting to eliminate heat loss up the new stairs.  It was very effective and the house is nearly back to normal temperature.

Added more plastic sheeting  on the 3 sides of the existing stairs to cut down on dust in kitchen and heat loss from the basement where we all are sleeping.  Added another plastic sheet along the far side of the kitchen.
