| The Construction PhaseThe Johnson Home Renovation Project – the fun part -- roof off and new addition built -- in 75 days. On the day after Christmas, we had the roof taken off and a new second story added up with 3 bedrooms, and an office and 2 bathrooms and a laundry room, and the attic finished off above that with 2 more bedrooms and a bathroom. We also added a wrap-around porch with 8 feet out from the front of the house and 6 feet out from the right side of the house. At the same time, we added a 12x22 Breakfast Room along half of the back of the house. We installed oak hardwood floors for all of the bedrooms, halls, stairs, the new Breakfast Room and the Kitchen. We took out the walls of Hannah’s old bedroom to expand the entryway and to put in the stairs to the addition. We also took out the wall between Tim and Liz’s former bedrooms to create a new Family Room. Finally, we had all of the current hardwoods re-finished to complete the project. I have wired the addition with Cat-5 for our home computer network. So from about December 26th through the middle of March, our house was a construction zone, but now we have plenty of space. Implemented our many decisions: … Trex or Brock decking for the porch (Trex) Trex - The Deck of a Lifetime … Andersen or Patriot windows (Andersen) Andersen Windows … colors for the siding and shutters and roof (White, Black and Grey) … styles for the fans in the bedrooms, office, and breakfast room (Hunter) Hunter Fan Company
