Shortly after the tiger, we worked our way over to the reptile house where feeding time was commencing. Outside we saw a monitor lizard. We saw some smaller Australian cousins further along in our trip, but didn't get a picture. Inside we saw an anaconda swallowing a pretty good sized rat. Gale got some decent photos of that, but I'm reluctant to call it website material.

This is a blue-faced honey eater. We see lots of yellow ones later on, but didn't see one like this in the wild. They eat insects, nectar, honey, and orange juice.

The ever elusive Tasmanian Devil. This little girl was hiding out when we arrived. But a nearby keeper turned on a heat lamp in the corner of the enclosure. Within minutes she tromped out of her hidey-hole and over to the corner where the last remains of her half-eaten rat was sitting. She chewed up the tail and gulped it down as we watched. I don't think you can make out the rat in this picture. Maybe it's just as well...

These guys were gorgeous. About 2.5' tall, they have incredibly long tails. All for balance while climbing all over rocky areas. We actually did see some of these guys in the wild, but couldn't get very close and didn't have very good light.

This is some kind of plover that I haven't been able to properly identify. I'll have to go back to Sydney and read off the name plate. If you focus just right you can get the animal without the mesh that's on most of the bird cages. You can still see the mesh near the bottom though.

These colorful little guys are Gouldian Finches.

We tried to find the infamous lyrebird as well as the roly-poly wombat, but the bird enclosures were in disarray preparing for some kind of overhaul and the wombats were moved since the overhaul of their area was well underway.
There was also a dimly lit series of enclosures in which you could see some of the nocturnal animals. Of course, its impossible to get photos without seriously annoying the animals.
On the way out, however, we find another great view of the city. Gosh, its everywhere.

The ferry back is pleasant enough, but we definitely feel like we've had a full day. As usual, the zoo isn't open long enough for us to see everything in one day. But we saw most if not all of the Australians--and that's why we're here!
Next: Darling Harbor is billed as "Sydney's playground". It has a couple of entertainment complexes, a couple of buildings with shopping, some wonderful restaurants, museums, and an enormous Chinese Garden gifted by the Chinese government some years ago.
