News for August 17There is a buzz going around that Tim Dwight may be in danger of being cut from the San Diego Chargers. Chargers' general manager A.J. Smith has announced that there will be 'big cuts', with Dwight, TE Steven Alexander, and OL Cory Raymer being possible candidates.Dwight will earn what amounts to approximately $3 million this season, and his role has reportedly been reduced in training camp. On Wednesday, Dwight was not used on the first team offense in practice at all, as Reche Caldwell and Eric Parker took the #1 reps, with free agent signee David Boston out with injury. In fact, little known players Tim Baker and Terry Charles were used before Dwight saw action. On Thursday morning, Dwight worked out a little with the first team, and in the afternoon he was again rarely on the field in any role. In addition, Parker and rookie Brain Sump have been sharing punt return duties with Dwight. During the Chargers' preseason contest with the Arizona Cardinals on 8/16, Dwight did not see the field until backup QB Doug Flutie took the helm. Despite this, Dwight had the best day of any receiver, catching four passes for 66 yards. Caldwell played with the 1st team, with Parker being the 3rd receiver. Dwight was reportedly upset after veteran DB Ryan McNeil was released last week and is questioning his own future with the Chargers. Thought from Webmaster: Dwight is one of the most popular players in San Diego, and one would think it would be a public relations nightmare if Dwight was released. However, considering Dwight's salary and his lack of repetitions in camp and the Bolts' last preseason game, and he may be a candidate to be released. The injury is believed to be minor, and Dwight would have played if it was a regular season game. Dwight is expected to play sparingly in San Diego's next preseason contest.News for August 3The following was posted on chargers.com:'Wide receiver Tim Dwight (groin) sat out of Saturday afternoon’s session.' They did not mention how severe the injury is, or if Dwight will miss any significant amount of time. News for July 6The North County Times printed the following:The 6-foot-2, 240-pound David Boston is a stud - can't dispute that. But he can't man both starting positions. What transpires opposite Boston could go along way in determining his success. Tim Dwight was the No. 2 receiver last year, but the Chargers would prefer him settling into the slot as the No. 3 receiver. Dwight's contributions are many - receiver, punt returner, running reverses. But Dwight, at 5-9, 180 pounds, will never be confused with Boston. And the Chargers are wise to consider his durability, by letting two second-year players, Reche Caldwell or Eric Parker, wrestle for the No. 2 spot.
