Scene 6: End of Opening Night

(Action continues onstage. The last scene of the play.)

SM:  Okay... Lights and Sound, you have a cue coming up in about 5 minutes. We're in the home stretch, people!

SQ:  Woot!

LX:  And no more mishaps, thank GOD.

SM:  No kidding. Oh God, I never thought this night would end.

SL:  Well, we did get through it, so that's all that matters. It'll be easier from here on in.

SM:  Totally. Okay, we're at the last speech. Come on, Jonathan. Bring us home, baby.

(Silence as Jonathan waxes eloquent.)

LX:  Oh wow, and look, he's even remembered his blocking. Good for him!

SM:  And there's the gentle caress... Stand by Lights 35 and Sound 26.

LX:  Standing by.

SQ:  Standing by.

SM:  muttering Come on, Jonny-boy, enough wanking. Get off the stage already.

SL:  You tell him, Rich.

SM:  Paul, what did I...

SL:  Oh, sorry.

SM:  Wank, wank, wank... C'mon, c'mon. God, there's only so much... FINALLY! There he goes. Lights and Sound.... go. Jen, tell me when Lisa's off stage.

SR:  She's just come off.

SM:  And Lights up for curtain call. Are your actors standing by?

SR:  Helen, Tommy and Lisa are... ohp, there they go.

SL:  As are Jeannie, Jonathan and Jones. Oooh, triple J!

LX:  Yay! (claps)

SQ:  First night down and we survived.

SM:  Jen, Paul, do they want a second curtain call?

SR:  (muffled)Another one, guys?

SL:  I dunno... I don't think the applause is big enough to warrant it.

SR:  They said no.

SM:  Alrighty then, house lights up!

LX:  Complete.

SM:  Phil, let the music play out. Great work, all of you.

SR:  You too, Rich. Stellar job.

SL:  Totally. Way to keep us in line and together, despite all the problems tonight.

SM:  Couldn't have done it without you guys. Paul, I'm buying you a round for your help with Lisa tonight. Actually, know what? I'm buying a round for all of you. You all deserve it.

SL:  Aw, thanks, Rich.

SR:  Thank you!

LX:  Woot! Free beer!

SQ:  Thanks, Rich.

SM:  Yeah, now shut up and get the hell off headset. We all have a ton of work still to do.

SL:  Aye, aye, cap'n. Stage left off.

SR:  Stage right off.

LX:  Lights signing off.

SQ:  Sound go bye.

(Each switches off their microphone in turn, and the light spots on them go off. SM is the last to go. He checks around the booth to make sure all is good, picks up his notebook and switches off his light.)
