Registration

An entrance interview can be scheduled by contacting the counselor's office. To contact register, please call (616) 381-4424.

 

Admission Requirements

Applicants seeking enrollment in the school must comply with the following requirements.

 

1.   West Michigan College of Barbering and Beauty requires that a student be at

      least 16 years of age. Otherwise, when part of a public education program,

      the required minimum age is 15.

2.   Must have a High School diploma, a GED certificate, or have completed at

      least 9th grade unless enrolling for the Barbering course (see below), and

      have successfully passed the Ability to Benefit test that is approved by the

      Department of Education.

3.   Must be free of any communicable disease.

 

Additional Requirements for the Barbering Course

1.   Provide proof of completion of the 10th grade. Students who have not

      graduated must do the following:
                    a. Secure high school transcript
                    b. Pass an Ability to Benefit Entrance Exam, approved by the

                        U.S Department of Education

2. Complete a Michigan Barber School, Inc. admission application.

3. Complete a Student Barber License application.  

4. Submit a $45.00 money order made payable to the "State of

    Michigan-Barber",  which is non-refundable.

5. Be prepared to write a paragraph on "Why I Would Like To Attend The

    Michigan Barber School".

6. Students applying for Title IV Funds must provide verification of the previous

    year income.

7. Acceptance and further enrollment will depend upon compliance of the

    applicants with all the admission requirements.

8. It is mandatory that all prospective students visit the facility to receive

     enrollment material and participate in orientation. Applicants who live long

     distances from the school and cannot meet this requirement, must do so prior

     to signing the enrollment agreement.

 

Admission Procedures

The orientation includes the following admission procedures:

 

1.   A timely dispensing of an enrollment package.

2.   A 30-45 minute presentation.

3.   A question and answer period.

4.   Instructions on how to complete all applications.

5.   Schedule date for non-graduates to take the entrance exam.

6.   Schedule date for the entrance interview with applicants who are returning

      their completed enrollment package, along with the $45.00 money order.
