Approach method
The blue whale, even though the biggest mammal known to man , is a timid creature. Nothing is to be gained by chasing after him. We have to give him the time to identify us and to let him decide if he is going to let us approach him. So don't expect a mad race over  the waves but more a reasoned approach as follows:
1. Find the whale either by sighting his spout (height 7-8m visible in clear weather from 4-5 Km) or by the sound produced by the expiration of spent air -which can be heard at several kilometres.
2. Time his dives and observe the direction in which it is heading.
3.Make a slow approach to give it time to recognise us and to accept us in his environment.
 4. Cross our fingers and hope that all goes well and that the whale will surface near to us
Nothing is ever certain with the blue but this method has proved sucessful  and the spectacle is worth waiting.
