1972
In the Beginning
In 1972, a prototype was built, only
one. It weighed about 485 pounds and had a flat opposed six-cylinder engine
much like today's GL-1500. A single two-barrel carburetor fed all 1470cc and
the engine made about 80 hp @ 6700 rpm. The problem with the bike was it's
length, that prevented a comfortable riding position. The project was called
off and Honda settled on a 4-cylinder configuration that became the GL-1000.
