When a Witch Dances with the Dragons, she discovers an intensity of power untapped before. It is an exhilarating experience, a spiritual high. Dragons can empower magickal rituals far beyond what has been normally encountered. Their grasp of ancient knowledge is deep and profound. Their ability to see through layers of time, both backward and forward, is astounding and quite accurate, if they choose to share with you what they see. As protectors, there are no equals.
If you are a dedicated Witch, your intuition, your desire to learn, will draw you, sooner or later, to call upon Dragons. You may begin by asking them to better your physical life, but eventually you will find yourself more and more asking their help to improve the mental, emotional, and particularly the spiritual parts of you. That is when the real journey in the company of Dragons begins.
In The Evolution of the Dragon (Manchester University Press, 1919), G.Elliott Smith writes that originally the Dragon was thought of as a beneficial creature. It was identified with kings, gods, and advanced, powerful magicians/witches. When a Dragon became evil, it was considered only evil because the energy it represented was out of control, or not properly balanced. As the Chinese would say, the Yin and Yang were out of balance. It took greedy, cruel men and orthodox religions to brainwash humans into believing that all Dragons were intrinsically evil and untrustworthy. And worse, they programmed humans to believe that Dragons do not exist at all, except in their hell as their devil.
It will take hard work by Witches and Magicians to re-establish lines of communication with the ancient, powerful Dragons of the astral plan. When you have been abused and maligned, trust does not return easily. The study of Dragons will never be a magickal "science" available to all, nor should it be. The Dragons themselves will decide the worthiness of a seeker on an individual basis. It is the responsibility of each Witch to present her case for Dragon companionship.
Under Dragon tutelage, the Witch has the opportunity of constantly learning and evolving her knowledge and magickal ability. If you have taken the time and effort to forge a friendship with Dragons, they can become the best companions a Witch could ever want. Sometimes this friendship can seem harsh and demanding, but it is always in your best interests. Dragons will never let you slide in your responsibilities or draw back from new experiences because you are afraid. If you hesitate to go forward, Dragons have no mercy. They tend to plant themselves directly behind you, gently nudging until you find yourself taking that first hesitant step into a new phase of life.
A lifelong Dance with Dragons is never boring. Dancing with Dragons is a constant exploration of various types of energies and the uses to which they can be applied. They will start you off in "kindergarten," where you learn to manifest physical needs. Then you graduate into more complex and demanding forms of magick: healing, emotional balance, mental disciplines, spiritual seeking. And just when you think you have learned everything there is to know about a subject, the Dragons will surprise you by unveiling a new view, some hidden knowledge, a different method of magick.
You may well find yourself facing an inner door, unnoticed before. The opening of this door will require you to readjust your thinking about yourself and everything and everyone around you. Sometimes this can be bitterly painful. We all like the comfortable status quo; changes bring the unknown and therefore the frightening. And none of us likes to be faced with the fact that there are still habits and traits within ourselves that need cleaning out, even though deep inside we know this to be true. It is personally painful on all levels to haul out this garbage, see it for what it is, and discard it. The wonderful thing is, although Dragons will force an envolving Witch to undergo this experience, they will be by your side through the whole ordeal.
The number of Dragons, especially guardian Dragons, around you may well grow into large numbers. Dancing with Dragons can be a joyful, daily experience, one that is eagerly sought and enjoyed by all the participants. The mutual sharing of energies helps both species in their evolution and spiritual growth. The more Witches seek out the companship of Dragons, work with them, and earn their trust, the more Dragons will be encouraged to once more have a closer, positive relationship with humans in general.
At the very edges of our mental and psychic realms are signs that read "Here be Dragons." The Witches who are true explorers of the unknown will be challenged, not frightened, by these signs. They will forge a friendship and partnership with these astral creatures that will lead to some of the greatest discoveries ever made. May that journey always be one of continuing interest and growth! |
