Welcome to Dragon Lore DRAGONZ

A race of warm-blooded creatures, often winged and with long tails.
There is a tendency among this species to emit large bursts of fire when threatened, or just for the hell of it.

They're everywhere, in the physical, mental and emotional planes.
And they love being a very important part of their chosen humans lives.
It is essential to learn all about these archetypes so that when you see them you'll be able to greet them properly and invite them to stay with you.

Young DragonZ are called Dragonets or Hatchlings and must feed almost constantly.
Their diet includes large rocks, melted into a flammable liquid by the highly corrosive stomach acid, which, when snorted out of the DragonZ nostrils, ignites, and enables them to breathe fire.
The Hatchlings work long and hard at this fete and usually have it perfected by the time they are two years old.
They delight in sneaking up behind their elders and demonstrating this talent,
which can often result in stern discipline, and loss of flight privileges for several days.

At a year old, they have reached seventy percent of their adult size and have learned to fly, a skill that is not easily learned,
as many small DragonZ experience air sickness and a few tend to be acrophobia, at first.
But fly they do.

Seeing DragonZ is as easy as going into a meditative state and looking.
And looking.
They are out there, on the Astral Plane, doing their Dragon thing, waiting for you to get around to visiting.

After awhile, you'll see them on this earth plane too.
The Hatchlings love perching atop computers and frequently cloud monitor screens with their breath.
They are great spell checkers.

FINDING YOUR VERY OWN PERSONAL DRAGON(Z)

Hatchlings are given humans to guard and protect,
as well as the new title of Guardians, of which they are very proud,
so it's terribly important to be on a first name basis with your personal DragonZ.

The art and science of finding your personal Dragon goes like this:
Get comfortable.
Close your eyes.
Get into a meditative trance state.
Use whatever method of meditation you find suitable, start looking.

You've all seen pictures of DragonZ
(why else are you looking at this site?)
and it should be fairly easy to visualize these creatures.
You may find they will appear, reappear and have a fine time making you doubt your sanity,
but with time and practice, you
WILL MEET YOUR DRAGON.

They come in several sub-classifications.

1. LINDWORM:
This classification is wingless but has feet.
They cannot fly, but are very adept at breathing flame.
The flow of energies radiating from the Lindworm is slow and direct.
It just keeps coming and there's nothing you can do to stop it.
Scares the bejeebers out of those who would do you harm.

2. AMPHITERE:
This classification is footless and winged.
Their wingspan allows them to stay aloft constantly and they are always flying around,
out there on the Astral plane looking over you.
The flow of energies from Ampeiteres has a looping effect,
which pulses forward, increasing in strength with each loop.
Great for guarding trees, which is but one of their duties.

3. WYVERN:
This classification is both winged and footed and probably the most commonly represented Dragon portrayed by artists.
They both fly and run and could win a horse race without even getting winded.
The Wyvern's energies dart from place to place, once here and then there.
Another wonderful protection when someone is trying to get into your psychic space.

4. GUIVRE:
This classification is footless, wingless, but has fins.
Think Nessie! She's just a very old Dragon who inhabits Loch Ness in Scotland and every so often is sighted by someone.
She loves publicity!
The Guivre's energies are slow and flowing.
It just glides in and hits, before one realizes they've been spotted by the Dragon.

You may be one of the lucky ones who has several DragonZ,
whether it's because they love you so much,
or that the Elders of Dragondom have decided that you Really Need Watching.

And you may have one of each, or at least a couple from different classifications
and this is a truly wonderful thing,
as each Dragon will play his/her special part in your life.

NAME OF THE DRAGON

Listen closely.
Each Dragon has a very special name,
or several AKA's given to them as they develop their Dragon personas.
Listen again, and then listen some more.

When your Dragon gets comfortable with you, he/she will whisper that special name.
They already know yours!

GUARDIANS/HATCHLINGS

The Guardians range in size from the size of a dragonfly
or sometimes smaller
to the size of small dogs.
And to keep you constantly surprised,
love to shapeshift into all sorts of creatures,
sizes and hues.
Be careful where you step,
lest a small tail find itself under your foot.

They take it all very seriously, and you must too,
as an angry Dragon is NOT,
let me assure you,
a pleasant spirit to behold.
Remember, they do breath fire and
direct the flames at you if taken lightly.

When you feel threatened, pull hand sized Dragon scales up from your feet,
all around your body, over your head.
Envision them as mirror finished,
and the threat will simply be mirrored right back at who or whatever is threatening you.
And both you and your Dragon can have a great laugh at the cause of all this concern.

DRAGON ETIQUETTE

Being very elusive creatures, as well as being way too polite to intrude,
DragonZ come only when summoned,
or in the event that someone or something is threatening the mortals in their care.

And since fully grown DragonZ range in size from that of a present day horse,
to that a medium-sized house, or even larger,
remember they shape-shift at will
the sudden appearance of a flame breathing Dragon
is one no menacing force will ever quite get over.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

Knowing as much as you possibly can about these archetypes,
helps in locating and understanding the DragonZ you'll meet.

Remember those old maps?
On the very edge of land, where uncharted waters began,
there was a legend that said “HERE THERE BE DRAGONZ.”

Yep. There and here, too.

DRAGON FASHION

White DragonZ represent Winter,
and you can find them hiding in plain sight in a snow bank.
Disturbing mountains DragonZ causes avalanches.
As many an unlucky skier has found out.

Green DragonZ love Springtime
and are very adept at matching themselves
exactly to the budding leaves and grasses.
They tend to hate lawn mowers, leafblowers and weedwackers
and may cause them to malfunction,
provoking foul language from the humans who insist on using them.

Red DragonZ love Summer and heat and fire,
so they blow a lot of smoke and flame,
evoking great bouts of screaming from humans, wherever they go.
This delights DragonZ
and the Hatchlings practice long and hard to learn this wonderful trick.

Yellow DragonZ are Fall creatures
and can usually be found rolling with human children
in piles of yellow and red autumn leaves.
Listen to your kids peals of laughter and see the DragonZ.

Blue DragonZ can be found at the seashore,
surfing, or in lakes, or riding the rapids down rivers.
They like to disperse themselves in raindrops and absolutely adore storms,
the fiercer, the better.
Listen to them howl.

FIERCE PROTECTORS

Now in case you are thinking that all this Dragon work boils down to
is having a ball with their humans and frolicking on the Astral Plane:

CELESTIAL DRAGONZ

Have the great duty of protecting heaven and its many mansions.
These are the wonderful five toed creatures found in Oriental art
and the houses of the Emperor,
who is the only person divine enough to wear the symbol of the five toes.
All us non-royalty have to be content with three and four toed creatures,
which come to think of it, are my favorites.

ELEMENTAL DRAGONZ

With their deep abiding love of magick,
naturally DragonZ attend every ritual,
often flying long distances between them,
especially on all the Sabbats.

They each have a special direction that they have chosen for their very own,
and all tend to stack up nicely with the Gnomes,
Salamanders,
Sylphs and Undines,
Archangels,
Kings etc.
once the circle is cast.

THE EARTH DRAGON

a/k/a

MOTHER DRAGON

She dons her green coat and cavorts in the North,
flirting with all those Gnomes and
emitting all sorts of wonderful energies,
especially to those earth signed humans in ritual.
This Dragon also loves to put on her black cloak
and hang out with the Crones.
She has developed a wonderful cackle.
You can imagine what all that wisdom can accomplish in your coven.
Greet this great Crone and celebrate our Samhain New Year with her and your coven.

AIR DRAGON,

A lovely lemon yellow,
adores arriving on large gusts and stirring up the fire,
blowing cloaks around necks and generally making herself known in no uncertain terms.

No gentle zephyr, this creature.
She dances up with the Sylphs, whispering of winds called Mariah.
As the circle closes, she has a tendency to spiral widdershins right along with the coven,
bidding hale and farewell to all who attended,
thanking them warmly, and then finds an upper air current.

Yellow Air DragonZ often are reported as a UFO sightings by ariplane pilots amd crews.
This makes the Yellow Dragon laugh hysterically.

The AZURE WATER DRAGON

Arrives with a splash:
you'll feel the drops on your cheek.
Then she and the Undines discuss the unexplored oceans on this plane and all the others,
while the coven goes about their spell workings.
She often will cross large bodies of water just to attend your ritual,
so welcome her warmly, and just as warmly bid her adieu.

The RED FIRE DRAGON,

With her flames and sooty smoke,
works wonderfully with your coven's fire tender,
the Salamanders and Fire Drakes,
smoldering,
crackling
and accepting the offering cast into the flames,
which are her due, quite graciously.
Note: Be especially sure to release these creatures,
and close and ground the circle well, or no telling what will catch fire later.

CAVE DWELLING DRAGONZ

Tend to be serpentine in appearance and love dark, cool places.
They hardly ever get a great tan and really ought to get out more.

SWAMP DWELLERZ

Are called KnockerZ
and as if swamps weren't spooky enough,
they love to rear up, right in front of swamp buggies carrying tourists.
Next time you visit Florida, be sure to schedule a swamp buggy ride in the Everglades and be scared witless by the knockers.

MOUNTAIN DWELLERZ

Generally wear their gray coats in order to blend in with mountain peaks.
When their perches become snow covered the DragonZ turn white,
all the better to confuse mere mortals.
They have an especially large congregation atop Mount Everest
and warmly welcome the mortals who risk life and limb to visit them.

DragonZ are scaled
and range in color from Golden,
through Emerald and Ruby,
to pure White.

DragonZ can spit fire when angered,
but are generally benevolent, friendly and intellectual.
The species is quite large,
but these elusive and shy creatures are well capable of concealing themselves from mortal eyes.

SCIENTIFIC STUDIES

Scientists of the carbon based persuasion
have attempted to reconstruct Dragon Bones
and have brought forth many theories about them.
