kira

This is Kira Brandi, Nana and Poppa's first little angel! She was brought into this world quite unexpectedly at 3:57 AM, on May 7, 1997. Her mom, our oldest and only daughter, had an abruption, (placenta separation), and started hemorraghing. Kira appreared at only 34 weeks, 5 lbs 4 oz, but 20 1/2 inches long. Her lungs weren't quite ready and before mom even had a chance to hold and cuddle her she was whisked away by ambulance to the NICU in Macon, GA. I stayed with mom while Poppa stood on the curb and cried quietly while his firstborn's firstborn sped away. Nikki couldn't go as she had a C-section and had to stay at the hospital. Mike went home and packed his things to go stand vigil at the NICU until Nikki could join him.

Those were three of the longest days we have ever spent. But thanks to the Good Lord, on the day Nikki was discharged, Kira was also able to go home with mom and dad. She was breathing on her own and doing fine. She was so tiny, but home she went!

She has now celebrated her 4th birthday and is a little charmer. She has long blondish brown hair and brown eyes like her dad, (and Nana), and is tall for her age. Her dad is 6'5"!

destiny

This little cherub is Destiny, our second little angel! She appeared on the scene when she was 10 months old. My oldest son, J, had met her mom before she was born. The biological dad had skipped town and left Ladonna all alone. Well, J stepped in, was at her birth and one look and it was love at first sight. Of course, being a mom and this was my SON, *grin*, I was skeptical about the whole situation. I'm sure if have a son, you kinda know how moms feel about their sons!

We were distant in those first few months, but when Destiny was ten months old, J was down on his luck, without a job, and we insisted that they move in with us. So here they came! We wondered how we would take to a child that was a step-child, even though our son was the only daddy she had ever known. Let me tell you, it didn't take long for that little one to worm her way smack-dab into the middle of our hearts!

They stayed with us for a year, and have since moved out on their own. It took a while to get used to not having her here. We miss that look of pure joy when we would walk in the door to the sounds of NANA!. . . . .POPPA!, and the hugs and kisses that would follow.

But they live only 5 miles away, so you can rest assured that there are many trips back and forth between the two houses!

Tyler

Charles Tyler is the number 3 Angel. He also belongs to my oldest son and is the spitting image of his dad, right down to the temper! He will be 1 year old on June 29, 2001. I was there when he was born and helped mom as he came into this world. I watched my son cut the cord and stood there with tears of joy. It was the most awesome thing I think I have ever seen! He was named Charles after his dad, his poppa, his great granddad, his great, great granddad, and his great, great, great granddad. An amazing tradition to carry on! They lived with us at the time of his birth and it has been such a joy to watch him grow, to see his first smile, his first tooth, to watch him struggle to learn to crawl, and the frustration and temper tantrums that would erupt when he couldn't get his knees and hands working at the same time.

They have since moved into their own home and it is so quiet around here. Sometimes too quiet...........so I just hop in my car and go get them!!!!!

T J

Angel number four Is T.J.,Trenton Jackson, named for his daddy's grandfather. He is our daughter's son and Kira's little brother. He was born on Dec. 21, 2000. T.J. was the impatient one! He was ready to greet the world at 27 weeks. But the doctors said, "Oh no, not yet little one." He was giving mom the same problems as his big sister. So into the hospital mom went. She stayed in the hospital for several days and then was moved to an out-patient facility at the hospital in Macon, GA. There she atayed for six long weeks until the doctors decided that it was safe to go home, that if T.J. decided it was time, he was strong enough to survive on his own. Mom came home and we waited.

On Dec. 20, 2000, we decided to try to do some Christmas shopping at Wal-Mart, along with my son's family. Nikki's husband was in Jacksonville, Florida on a new job. As we get into Wal-Mart, Nikki takes Kira to the bathroom and comes out, and says,"Mom we have to go!" "OK", I said and proceed off in the opposite direction as pre-arranged with the kids. "NO!" she says, "I mean GO!" So here we go to the hospital. What a night! I stayed with her at the hospital all night until Mike got there, and then went home and got Kira. T.J. was born that day, December 21 at 12:55 pm. I was outside with Kira and we got to see him when he was just a few minutes old. He weighed 6 pounds and 13 ounces and was 20 inches long. And looked just like his big sister!

So this is just a little about the grandkids for now, Do we spoil them, you ask? Of course, isn't that what Nana's and Poppa's are supposed to do!! Come back again soon, there will be more pictures, of that you can be assured!
