THE CAVE
"Oh, it is getting so cold! However am I going to keep this egg warm! I wish it would hatch soon! Mama dragon is getting impatient and so am I! If it doesn't hatch soon it is going to begin to snow and then I will be stuck out here instead of in my nice warm house. Oh, darn!! I shouldn't think like that, I am beginning to sound mean, and cranky. I just think I am going crazy sitting out here all by myself. Somebody needs to come relieve me for a while.
"Xylara, are you in there? Where are you? I have come to help!"
"Oh Sprezella, am I glad to see you!" Xylara said. "I was getting so lonely!"
"Well, when IS that thing gonna hatch. It is getting so cold and I don't know what we are going to do if it starts snowing." Sprezella says impatiently as she stomps her foot.
"Oh, Spree, it's gonna hatch soon, I just know it will. We just have to be patient. Mama Dragon is coming over tomorrow to help fortify the place and fix it where it will be nice and warm for baby when he hatches." Xylara said.
"I know, it just seems so long, I want to see what he looks like........oh..oh..ooohhh...oooohhhh no!!!!! Look, look, it is cracking! What does that mean!!!!" Spree hollered. "Get me outta here!"
"Spree, no wait. It just means that he is beginning to hatch... uh...uh...hhaattcchhh!!!! Oh no, what are we gonna do!! Oh Spreezella, go get Mama...go get Valeria...go get Marsie...go get Breezia...go get ANYBODY! OOOHHHHH hurry!" Xylara yells.
(Interjection from Lynne)
At this point Xylara is jumping up and down, flapping her wings and going completely crazy. She was so sure she could handle this, but I may have to step in and help! That would just upset her so. She did so want to be independent and do this on her on. Well, back to the story, let's see what happens. Keep your fingers crossed!
"Oh, Xy, just calm down, you can do this. Sprezella has gone to get Mama, everything will be ok. Oh, wow, he will be hatched soon! I will have my very own dragon. Wonder what they eat.....besides elderberry pie..hehehe!" Xy tells herself.
Now about this time her friends show up. They heard her hollering all the way down at the brook where they where getting a drink of water. "What in the world is going on?" Breezia asks.
"Oh, not much," Xy says, trying to act cool and collected. "The egg is just hatching."
Well, as to be expected they all go crazy and start jumping around and hollering.
Xy says, "Will you all quiet down, everything is going to be ok. I have things under control!"
(Interjection from Lynne)
Boy, she sure changed her tune. But I had confidence in her, I knew she could do it.
A huge cloud of dust and smoke appears at the mouth of the cave, and with a whoosh in flies Mama Azurlia. "Well, it's about time for my little angel to present himself! Where is Xylara? Are you ready for the big moment!"
As Xylara turns to speak to Mama, there is a loud splintering sound and a hush fells over everyone. They turn around and what do they see after the dust clear but a DRAGON......a little blue baby dragon!
"uuurrrppp," he says and promptly proceeds to fall asleep.
Azurlia is beside herself with joy. "Oh, he is so precious, isn't he beautiful!"
Xylara can only think, "oh, he's so BIG, what am I going to do with him?"
Everybody naturally begins to oohh and aahh over him. Mama goes over to him and picks him up and begins cuddling him. She starts to cry.....(Xylara runs the other way)! "Oh, I am so proud of him, isn't he so sweet. Xylara, he is going to forever be your guardian, I think you should have the pleasure of naming the little tyke."
"LITTLE!," Xylara thinks to herself, "humph! Well, I think I am going to name him Zorf. I think that would be a good name for him."
"So be it," says Mama, "Zorf, it is." And she begins to prepare a place for the little fella to stay.....and to tell Xylara and her friends what they need to get to keep him happy and full.
As the day winds down, Xylara and her friends return home, to get some well deserved rest and to begin to prepare for the day that Azurlia has to go home and Zorf's care will be in Xylara's hands!
