Co-curricular & extra-curricular activities

A long, successful record of involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities has been the necessary result of being an active and commited teacher in countries where curriculum itself is quite insufficient when it comes to what young people are really interested in.

Yet in most developed countries this sort of activities get at least some community and institutional support, which is something I look forwards to.

It will be great that for a change I'm not the only support of the Rugby team I coach, for example.

under the heading of "extra curricular" I have had experience in helping the following student-initiated activities:

  • radio Program (adult "guarantee" required by radio station)
  • rock groups (several)
  • campouts (too many to remenber, and enjoyed most)
  • sport teams ("responsible adult" signature and escort, often)
  • parties (chaperon)

also, as school-initiated activities that needed someone well beyond the call of duty (co-curricular), I've been part of

  • theater (from setting scenery, to organising the whole thing)
  • choir
  • science fairs
  • sports activities (referee)
