January 2, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected Guard Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Tank Division 105 of the KPA honored with the title of the O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment. Kim was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae, Kim Myong Guk and Ri Myong Su and other leading commanding officers of the army.
January 4, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected Unit 1489 under the Artillery Command of the KPA. Kim was greeted on the spot by Col. General Ri Jong Bu, artillery commander of the KPA, as well as other general officers and commanding officers of the unit. Kim was accompanied by KPA General Kim Jong Gak, first vice-director of the General Political Department of the KPA, KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Kim Myong Guk and other commanding officers of the KPA and leading officials of the society including those of the C.C., the WPK.
January 6, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the newly-built Wonsan Youth Power Station. Kim was met by Pak Jong Nam, secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, and Ro Kil Jong, vice-chairman of the Kangwon Provincial People's Committee, and other leading officials of the province and the power station. Kim also visited a newly-wed couple of Kim Kwang Chun and Yun Myong Sun, ex-soldiers, who moved to a newly-built modern house. Kim was accompanied by Ri Chol Bong, chief secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, Jang Song Thaek, department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, Ri Jae Il, first vice department director of the C.C., the WPK, and Generals of the Korean People's Army Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su.
January 13, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the Taean Heavy Machine Complex and the Kum Song Tractor Plant. Kim was accompanied by Pak Nam Gi, department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Ju Kyu Chang and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee.
January 15, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to light industrial establishments in the city of Pyongyang, including the Pyongyang Silk Mill, and the newly-built Pyongyang Gum Factory in Thongil Street in Pyongyang. Kim was accompanied by Pak Nam Gi, department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Ju Kyu Chang, first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.
January 17, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected a sub-unit under KPA Unit 2752 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment. Kim was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers.

January 23, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il met the visiting delegation of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China led by its Head Wang Jiarui. February 3, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the Tongbong Co-op Farm in Hamju County. Kim was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee. Kim met at the site with Mun Kum Nyo, a woman of merit in the Songun era, and highly praised her for having faithfully discharged her duty as a workteam head for decades.
February 4, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the February 8 Vinalon Complex and the Ryongsong Machine Complex. He was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi, department director of the C.C., the WPK.
February 6, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex. February 28, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to various units in Manpho City, including the Manpho Smeltery, the Amnokgang Tire Factory (where he met again Kim Song Dok and Han Kum Ok, a couple of workers of the finishing shop, whom he had met at their worksite eleven years earlier), the Manpho Spinning Mill, and the Manpho Restaurant. Kim also toured Manpho City. Kim was accompanied by Pak To Chun, chief secretary of the Jagang Provincial Committee of the WPK, and Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK.
March 4, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the construction in the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Samjiyon, including the statue of President Kim Il Sung newly erected in Chongbong Bivouac, the lodging house of visitors and cultural and welfare facilities newly built at the side of Lake Samji, and looked over Lake Samji. Kim was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, Kim Kyong Ho, chief secretary of the Ryanggang Provincial Committee of the WPK, Ri Je Gang and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the C.C., the WPK, and Generals of the Korean People's Army Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su.
March 8, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il Sunday inspected Kim Il Sung Political University and participated in the election of deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly. Kim met with (and voted for) KPA officer Jon Il, candidate for SPA deputy for Sub-Constituency No. 22 of Constituency No. 342. Kim also toured the university, visiting the e-library, a servicepersons' hall and other places. March 19, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the newly built swimming complex at Kim Il Sung University. April 5, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the General Satellite Control and Command Centre to watch the process of launching the experimental communications satellite Kwangmyongsong-2. April 7, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the Samilpho Special Products Factory on the bank of the Taedong River (managed by the army). April 9, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended the The First Session of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK was held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall. At the session, Kim Jong Il was elected chairman of the NDC of the DPRK.
April 18, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the newly built Nyongwon Power Station. July 8, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended a national memorial service to commemorate the 15th anniversary of demise of President Kim Il Sung.
