January 2, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected Guard Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Tank Division 105 of the KPA honored with the title of the O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment. Kim was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae, Kim Myong Guk and Ri Myong Su and other leading commanding officers of the army.

January 4, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected Unit 1489 under the Artillery Command of the KPA. Kim was greeted on the spot by Col. General Ri Jong Bu, artillery commander of the KPA, as well as other general officers and commanding officers of the unit. Kim was accompanied by KPA General Kim Jong Gak, first vice-director of the General Political Department of the KPA, KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Kim Myong Guk and other commanding officers of the KPA and leading officials of the society including those of the C.C., the WPK.

January 6, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the newly-built Wonsan Youth Power Station. Kim was met by Pak Jong Nam, secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, and Ro Kil Jong, vice-chairman of the Kangwon Provincial People's Committee, and other leading officials of the province and the power station. Kim also visited a newly-wed couple of Kim Kwang Chun and Yun Myong Sun, ex-soldiers, who moved to a newly-built modern house. Kim was accompanied by Ri Chol Bong, chief secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, Jang Song Thaek, department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, Ri Jae Il, first vice department director of the C.C., the WPK, and Generals of the Korean People's Army Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su.

January 13, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the Taean Heavy Machine Complex and the Kum Song Tractor Plant. Kim was accompanied by Pak Nam Gi, department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Ju Kyu Chang and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee.

January 15, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to light industrial establishments in the city of Pyongyang, including the Pyongyang Silk Mill, and the newly-built Pyongyang Gum Factory in Thongil Street in Pyongyang. Kim was accompanied by Pak Nam Gi, department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Ju Kyu Chang, first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.

January 17, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected a sub-unit under KPA Unit 2752 honored with the title of O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment. Kim was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers.

January 17, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to Mt. Ryongak Recreation Ground. Kim was accompanied by Jang Song Thaek, department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Ju Kyu Chang and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee, and KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su.

January 23, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il met the visiting delegation of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China led by its Head Wang Jiarui. Also present were Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK Liu Xiaoming.

January 26, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended a performance given by the State Merited Chorus on the occasion of the lunar New Year. January 31, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected a sub-unit of KPA Unit 131 honored with the title of the O Jung Hup-led Seventh Regiment. Kim was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army.

February 3, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the Tongbong Co-op Farm in Hamju County. Kim was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee. Kim met at the site with Mun Kum Nyo, a woman of merit in the Songun era, and highly praised her for having faithfully discharged her duty as a workteam head for decades.

February 4, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the February 8 Vinalon Complex and the Ryongsong Machine Complex. He was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi, department director of the C.C., the WPK.

February 6, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex. Kim was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi, department director of the C.C., the WPK. Kim also toured Hamhung City, including a stop at the Hamhung Branch of the Academy of Sciences.

February 6, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected the command of KPA Large Combined Unit 324. Kim was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers.

February 6, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended a song and dance performance given by artistes of the South Hamgyong Provincial Art Troupe. Also present were Secretary Kim Ki Nam, Department Directors Jang Song Thaek and Pak Nam Gi and other leading officials of the WPK Central Committee and KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army.

February 8, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Rakwon Machine Complex. Kim was accompanied by Kim Phyong Hae, chief secretary of the North Phyongan Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi and Jang Song Thaek, department directors of the C. C., the WPK.

February 11, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected Unit No. 681 under the KPA Artillery Command and watched its firing exercise. Kim was greeted on the spot by Col. General Ri Jong Bu, KPA Artillery commander, and other general officers and commanding officers of the unit. February 12, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to factories in Wonsan City, including the Wonsan Glass Bottle Factory, the Wonsan Shoes Factory, and the Wonsan Chemical Factory. Kim was accompanied by Ri Chol Bong, chief secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, Pak Nam Gi, department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Pak Myong Chol, councilor of the NDC of the DPRK. Kim was greeted on the spot by Pak Jong Nam, secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, Ri Il Sop, chairman of the Wonsan City People's Committee, and leading officials of the factories.

February 12, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to Wonsan University of Agriculture. Kim was accompanied by Ri Chol Bong, chief secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK, Pak Nam Gi, department director of the C.C., the WPK, and Pak Myong Chol, councilor of the NDC of the DPRK.

February 21, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex and the Ranam Coal Mining Machine Complex. February 23, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Musan Ore Mining Complex. February 24, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to work in various fields of Hoeryong City, including the statue of Kim Jong Suk on Osan Hill, the Hoeryong Essential Foodstuff Factory, the Hoeryong Taesong Cigarette Factory, the Hoeryong Branch of the Central Bank, and the Honored Thrice Red Flag Kim Ki Song Hoeryong Middle School No. 1. Kim was accompanied by Hong Sok Hyong, chief secretary of the North Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Jang Song Thaek and Pak Nam Gi, department directors of the WPK Central Committee, and Ri Jae Il, first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.

February 28, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to various units in Manpho City, including the Manpho Smeltery, the Amnokgang Tire Factory (where he met again Kim Song Dok and Han Kum Ok, a couple of workers of the finishing shop, whom he had met at their worksite eleven years earlier), the Manpho Spinning Mill, and the Manpho Restaurant. Kim also toured Manpho City. Kim was accompanied by Pak To Chun, chief secretary of the Jagang Provincial Committee of the WPK, and Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK.

March 4, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the construction in the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Samjiyon, including the statue of President Kim Il Sung newly erected in Chongbong Bivouac, the lodging house of visitors and cultural and welfare facilities newly built at the side of Lake Samji, and looked over Lake Samji. Kim was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, Kim Kyong Ho, chief secretary of the Ryanggang Provincial Committee of the WPK, Ri Je Gang and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the C.C., the WPK, and Generals of the Korean People's Army Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su.

March 8, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il Sunday inspected Kim Il Sung Political University and participated in the election of deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly. Kim met with (and voted for) KPA officer Jon Il, candidate for SPA deputy for Sub-Constituency No. 22 of Constituency No. 342. Kim also toured the university, visiting the e-library, a servicepersons' hall and other places. Kim was accompanied by KPA Vice Marshal Kim Yong Chun, minister of the People's Armed Forces of the NDC of the DPRK, KPA General Kim Jong Gak, first vice-director of the General Political Department of the KPA, KPA Generals Kim Myong Guk and Hyon Chol Hae and other KPA commanding officers.

March 8, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended an art performance given by the State Merited Chorus in connection with the opening of the Pulgunbyol Theatre. Also in the audience were KPA Vice Marshal Kim Yong Chun, minister of the People's Armed Forces of the NDC of the DPRK, KPA General Kim Jong Gak, first vice-director of the KPA General Political Department, KPA Generals Kim Myong Guk and Hyon Chol Hae and other commanding officers of the army, Pak Myong Chol, councilor of the NDC of the DPRK, Ri Je Gang and Ri Jae Il, first vice department directors of the C.C., WPK, and other senior cadres.

March 14, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected Unit 1811 under the KPA Artillery Command and watched its firing exercise. Kim was greeted on the spot by Col. March 18, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended a performance given by members of student art groups of Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, Kim Hyong Jik University of Education and other universities in Pyongyang. Also in the audience were senior officials of the WPK Central Committee including its Secretaries Choe Thae Bok and Kim Ki Nam and department directors, and commanding officers of the Korean People's Army including KPA Generals Kim Myong Guk, Hyon Chol Hae, and Ri Myong Su and university teachers.

March 19, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the newly built swimming complex at Kim Il Sung University. Kim was greeted on the spot by Song Ja Rip, president of the university, Kim Thae Hi, chief secretary of the University Committee of the WPK, and other leading officials of the university. Kim was accompanied by Secretaries Choe Thae Bok and Kim Ki Nam and Department Directors Jang Song Thaek and Pak Nam Gi of the Central Committee of the WPK and Councillor of the DPRK National Defence Commission Pak Myong Chol and General of the Korean People's Army Hyon Chol Hae.

March 20, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il met and congratulated the participants in the meeting of active outpost soldiers of the KPA under way in Pyongyang. Kim was accompanied by Vice Marshal of the KPA Kim Yong Chun, minister of the People's Armed Forces, KPA General Ri Yong Ho, chief of the KPA General Staff, KPA General Kim Jong Gak, first vice-director of the KPA General Political Bureau, KPA Generals Kim Myong Guk and Hyon Chol Hae and other commanding officers of the army.

March 21, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave on-the-spot guidance to the creation of the Opera "Hong Lu Meng," being recreated by the Phibada Opera Troupe. Kim was met by leading officials of the Phibada Opera Troupe and officials concerned. Kim was accompanied by Secretary Kim Ki Nam and Department Directors Jang Song Thaek, Choe Ik Gyu and Kim Yang Gon of the Central Committee of the WPK and First Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Sok Ju.

March 23, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Jaeryong Mine. Kim was accompanied by Kim Rak Hui, chief secretary of the South Hwanghae Provincial Committee of the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi and Jang Song Thaek, department directors of the C.C., the WPK.

March 25, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the construction site of the Huichon Power Station, visiting the dam construction site of the Huichon Power Station No. 1 in Ryongrim, and the dam construction site of the Huichon Power Station No. 2. Kim was accompanied by Pak To Chun, chief secretary of the Jagang Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, and Pak Nam Gi and Jang Song Thaek, department directors of the C.C., the WPK.

March 27, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the Anju Area Coal Mining Complex, including the monument to the field guidance given by President Kim Il Sung, and the Revolutionary Museum. Kim was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi and Jang Song Thaek, department directors of the C.C., the WPK.

March 27, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il field guidance to the Kusong Machine-Tool Plant. Kim was accompanied by Kim Phyong Hae, chief secretary of the North Phyongan Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, and Pak Nam Gi and Jang Song Thaek, department directors of the C.C., the WPK.

April 4, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the renovated Pyongyang Grand Theatre. Kim was met by the commanding officers of the Korean People's Army involved in the renovation project and leading officials of the theatre. April 5, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the General Satellite Control and Command Centre to watch the process of launching the experimental communications satellite Kwangmyongsong-2. Kim was accompanied by Secretary Jon Pyong Ho and First Vice-Department Director Ju Kyu Chang of the WPK Central Committee.

April 7, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the Samilpho Special Products Factory on the bank of the Taedong River (managed by the army). Kim was accompanied by KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army, Secretary Kim Ki Nam and Department Directors Jang Song Thaek, Choe Ik Gyu and Kim Yang Gon of the WPK Central Committee.

April 9, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended the The First Session of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK was held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall. At the session, Kim Jong Il was elected chairman of the NDC of the DPRK.

April 18, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the newly built Nyongwon Power Station. Kim was accompanied by Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Jang Song Thaek and Pak Nam Gi, department directors of the WPK Central Committee, and Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su, generals of the Korean People's Army.

April 21, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended a performance given by the art squad of KPA Unit 10215. Also present were KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Ri Myong Su and other commanding officers of the army and Secretary Kim Ki Nam, department directors Jang Song Thaek, Pak Nam Gi, Choe Ik Gyu and Kim Yang Gon and other leading officials of the WPK Central Committee.

April 24, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il met the scientists, technicians, workers and officials who contributed to the launch of the satellite Kwangmyongsong-2. Kim was accompanied by Minister of the People's Armed Forces Kim Yong Chun, vice-chairman of the NDC of the DPRK,Chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army Ri Yong Ho, and Secretary of the WPK Central Committee Jon Pyong Ho, First Vice-Director of the General Political Bureau of the KPA Kim Jong Gak and First Vice-Minister of the People's Armed Forces Kim Il Chol who are members of the NDC of the DPRK.

April 25, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il inspected the command of KPA Unit 851 on the 77th founding anniversary of the KPA. April 27, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to different fields in Wonsan City, including the statue of President Kim Il Sung standing at Haean Square, the Museum of President Kim Il Sung's Revolutionary Activities in Kangwon Province, the city management of Wonsan and the Songdowon Open-Air Theatre in Wonsan City. July 8, 2009: General Secretary Kim Jong Il attended a national memorial service to commemorate the 15th anniversary of demise of President Kim Il Sung.
