Pride overwhelmed not just the university but the entire small town of Lansing when the MSU basketball team dazzled their way first into the sweet sixteen, then the elite eight, the final four and finally took home the NCAA basketball championship.

The last time Lansing had this time to rejoice about was twenty years ago when Magic Johnson, also a product of MSU battled Larry Bird of
Indiana to win the title in 1979.

Lansing celebrated
on a massive scale
by holding a
champions parade
two days later in the
heart of the city -
the capital.

You can see the capital building behind (and of course Junie, spoiling my picture).

Need I say more?

There was even a plane flying by carrying the message about a beach party later that night to celebrate the win.

A parade vehicle - Izzone - is what the MSU basketball supporters like to call themselves, after the
team's coach Tom Izzo.

The Governor of Michigan was on hand to congratulate the team's
performance.

And finally the stars themselves:

From left: Mateen Cleaves (star point-guard and captain), Morris Peterson
(top scorer) and AJ Granger (sharp 3-point shooter)

While basking in the excitement of the parade, we overlooked the fact
that there was no bus service back to school since all the roads were
blocked. Being poor students without a car, we had to choice but to
trudge alongside the players as they paraded (onboard vehicles) all the
way back to MSU.

Our only consolation during the several miles walk was that a toy
basketball being thrown to the crowd by MoPete somehow ended in
Junie's hands after the intended recipents jumped, missed and deflected
it!

With our feet sore from the parade, we proceeded to the Spartan Stadium
for the award ceremony and more cheering sessions from the crowd.

A massive 25,000
strong crowd
turned up at the
stadium to show
their support.

If you look carefully, you might see me feeling overwhelmed by the number of people around me.
