Semester At Michigan State University

The Chinese New Year arrived without causing much furor here in Michigan (as expected). In fact, the professors were unmerciful in handing out homework during that very weekend. The only greeting we got was from this Pakistani professor who wished every Chinese-looking student a "happy dragon year", when we went up to hand in our mid-term exams!!! Still, we were determined to create some festive atmosphere on our own, hence the decision to cook our own dinner. The place of destruction we chose was at the apartment of a kind friend from Singapore. Her name is Kok Yee and she's a graduate student at MSU, pursuing her Phd.
Showing off our cutlery skills were the girls, while Ka Min is trying his very best to look like he's totally engrossed in his cooking. Note the weird smile he had on his face though.
We finally managed to persuade Ka Min to look away from his beloved bean-sprouts and smile for the camera.
We chose to cook steamboat for our dinner, thinking that nothing can go wrong. We simply need to dump all the food into the soup and eat. But lo and behold, imagine our shock when we removed the lid of the pot and saw huge, white, gigantic FISHBALLs floating about!!!! Turned out that they were inflated when the air pockets in them expand because of the heat (Junie's explanation).
But luckily we have Derrick, who bravely gobbled up all the food that we had left over. Yes, including the inflated and then deflated fishballs. Whew!
