It's a Family Affair

The eight attendants include all our siblings, and Chris's father as best man. We both wanted to share our special moment with our brothers and sisters, because we see this as a union between families. We'll let you know what makes each one special, but first we'd like to introduce you to our close friends, also in the party.

Cynthia Miller, our Matron of Honor, likewise chose Adrianna as maid of honor at her own wedding to John Miller in 2000. They have been close friends since meeting as "Sea Cadets" in a junior Navy cadet program for high schoolers. Along with sister Marisa, they participated in some truly bonding- and bizarre- extra curricular activities like marching drills, semaphore practice, early a.m. reveille, and weekends aboard the LHA carrier U.S.S. Peleliu. Cynthia hosted a bridal tea for Adrianna at her home in Orange County.

Darren Phillips, Chris's friend since the salad days, is also part of the ceremony. Three years older than Chris, Darren was often believed responsible for any of the trouble that the two got into during their younger years. Whether or not the blame was fairly placed is more than debatable. Chris and Darren have enjoyed annual camping trips, occasionally interrupted by marauding bears.

Marisa Mercado is the Maid-of-all Trades, that is, Maid of Honor. Having been Adrianna's younger sister for longer than anyone, it falls to her to do everything her older sister tells her to. Her love of the arts and her sense of do-it-yourself style has been key to making many of the bride's schemes a reality. Marisa has just completed her BA in social history at California State University at Monterey Bay, to everyone's relief, except those who bet otherwise. As she stands on the yawning abyss of adult responsibility, she is contemplating going back for another degree.

The Best Man is the best man in Chris's life: his father George Stillwell. George retired last fall from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, where he had been Assistant Prosecutor for almost as long as Chris has been around. His children love to swap their favorite stories about his best lines, including his observation during an early and adventure-packed trip to Orlando that the kids would have been happier if he had tossed them in a box, shaken it around, and pulled up to a hotel in their hometown. The kids would have been happy to believe they were in Disney World, so long as the hotel had a pool.

As George participates in the ceremony he will be able to see all his children front and center. Amy Stillwell, inheriting three sisters to make up for her previous lack thereof, is also a bridesmaid. Currently, she lives in the enviable locale of Prince Edward Island, but has little time for sightseeing as she is a full time student of veterinary medicine. She will complete her rigorous studies in two years, with the support of her own mini-zoo- she has a ball python, two kittens, and a bird to keep her company in her tiny bedroom. Unfortunately, the critters are usually not allowed on Amy's travels all over the place, from Canada to Italy to Texas and all points in between.

Like Amy, Adam Mercado will finally be able to enjoy the brothers he never had (of course he will overlook the addition of a sister keeping the scales tilted). As a grooms' man, he will be standing with them when it becomes official. Although he is a manager at Aames Mortgage, in his spare time he cares for his new manic, black cat, Hattori Hanzo, and continues his studies for a business degree. Eventually this may lead to a comic book shop. After the wedding, he looks forward to the annual ComicCon in San Diego.

As little brothers go, both Adam and Bryan Stillwell have had the advantage of being so in name only. Now they can compare height advantages together on the 25th. Bryan has been working at Banc of America Securities for the past few years. He will be testing his skills as wedding DJ at the ceremony, spinning your disco and 80's favorites, as well as a surprise or two... Bryan is competing with his sister in the category of home zoo, currently the proud owner of two battling kittens, Azrael and Jack. The "duck-duck in a tree" of which he has spoken since childhood is apparently still pending. In the fall, Bryan hopes to begin film classes.

The littlest sister of all, Jessica Mercado, has been shining brightly as a senior at University of California at Irvine, double majoring in Chicano-Latino Studies and Criminal Justice at the age of twenty. She will graduate next year, but gains no height or age advantage. She enjoys pampering a cat of her own, and conniving family members into driving her around town.
