We met in August 2001 at an outdoor swing dance at Pier 25 in downtown Manhattan. Adrianna noticed Chris and thought she would ask him to dance. When the band started playing a new song she started to look for him when she felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to see that he was standing beside her, asking her to dance. At the end of the night he asked her to meet him again.

As they started dating they found they shared a lot in common and were able to introduce each other to new things. She watched him perform music for off-off-Broadway plays and he went with her to Yankees games. They grew close quickly and shared the holidays with each other's families.

Last August, Chris suggested they see his friend's old-time jazz band, The Mad Jazz Hatters, perform at a Brooklyn bar and restaurant. Just after midnight, the band announced that they had a special guest singer and Chris got up to the microphone. Instead of crooning the lyrics of some old standard, he started singing a song he had been writing on the sly for several months. During the instrumental solos, he asked Adrianna to dance. As the solos concluded, he pulled out a chair in front of the band and motioned for her to sit down.

Chris returned to the microphone and sang another line or so and then the band stopped. He got down on one knee and sang his proposal:
Shall we dance through life?
Will you be my wife?
Will you marry me, Adrianna?

After she caught her breath, she gasped "Yes!"
