Stunts
Stunts are skits and run-ons and anything else besides a story or song. Stunts hold the fun and humor of the fire. This is where showmanship is very improtant. Stunts should be rehearsed by the actors so that everyone knows their part well. The keyword when preforming stunts is personalize.
Eventually this page will include some of my favorite skits and links to other pages with skits. There is plenty of great ideas on the net. This page only deals with the foudation of skits and their role in the campfire.
When you first pick a skit to do, read it outloud to the group that is going to preform it. Then pick who is going to play which parts. Have everyone practice it once. Now go over it and start personalizing it. Think of some props that are available you can use. Then try to come up with some simple costumes for the actors to wear. Now practice it again with the props and try to get the actors to make up voices to go with their character.
Practice until everyone is sure of their lines. Now you are ready. When your group is called up to preform, put on your costumes and bring out your props. Don't be afraid to ask the MC to help out if you need it. Be sure that your voices are loud enough so everyone can hear well.
The purpose of the run-on is to take up extra time and fill in dead spots. If you know that a certain skit is going to require some set up time, have a run-on ready to preform. Keep it short and to the point. Quick jokes or puns are the best. You might also have a run-on that lasts through the fire and the pun is at the end. Try not to interrupt a skit or song unless it has been arranged before hand.
These are some pointers on how to preform stunts. Remember to personalize them!
