Rattelsnake Patrol '97 - '98 Activities

The Rattlesnake Patrol manages to keep our Den Leaders on their toes. We have been working on several activity badges, our Webelos Badge, plus participating in the Pack Activities Check out what we've done so far this year!

WEBELOS BADGE

For our webelos badge, we have done alot of work at home, especially the religious requirements. But the things we do in our den meeting to help us along are using the Scout Law, Scout Oath, and Outdoor Code in our opening ceremonies.

We also worked on a crossword puzzle and word search puzzle to help us learn the parts of the Scout Law, Motto, Slogan and the Outdoor Code.

Each one of us has planned and led a flag ceremony in our den. The Den Chief helps us to pick one out. But we lead it by ourselves.

Every one of us has earned our WEBELOS BADGE. We were awarded it at the Blue and Gold Banquet.

Every month we focus on a different activity badge to earn. Keep reading to find out what we've done so far.

OCTOBER

October has been real busy. We worked on our communicator badge, fitness badge, and went to Fun with Son.

To earn our Communicator Pin we, designed this web page, worked with Codes, learned the Pledge of Allegiance in sign language, and played the Body Language game. We did other fun stuff too. But that was the best.

For our fitness pin, we lifted weights, did push ups, sit ups, and had two man contests. It was hard work, but lots of fun. The leaders couldn't do ONE push up!

NOVEMBER

We worked hard on our Engineer Pin. Plus we had help from our dads. One of the fun things we did was to draw floor plans of our homes. We also got to look at the blueprints of a brand new bank that was just built in our town! We also drew bridges, and experimented with different kinds of model bridges. We tested it with a LEGGO car.

We also made a catapult. It really works!

DECEMBER

We had a short month in December. No badge work, just FUN! We had a Christmas party, where we played games, went carolling and ATE and ATE and ATE! We also built and rode on the Pack's float in the County Christmas Parade.

JANUARY

We are working on the Showman pin now. We decided on Puppetry. So far, we've built a puppet stage and written a play. We are also practicing to perform a skit at this months Pack meeting.

Our last meeting, we helped Ms. Tina put together the examples of the Blue Gold Banquet decorations for the rest of the Pack. We knew it would mean not earning our showman pin, but we were glad to help. We all got a good deed star as a reward at the Pack meeting.

FEBRUARY

We have been busy selling scout show tickets for the Scout Expo on March 1. We had lots of cool sponsers, and are looking forward to the show.

We have also been finishing up our showman badge and made the table decorations for the Blue and Gold Banquet. We had LOTS of fun making the puppets, and we practiced our skit. You can read our skit on the skits page. Our stage was made from a big box, which we decorated and put up on a table. The setting for our play was a campsite in the woods. So our scenary was mountains and trees. We even made a tent and camp fire for props. Our parents watched us perform, and we had lots of fun.

MARCH

March was a busy month. Besides Spring break, we worked on our Geologist Badge. We collected and identified rocks mined right here in Arkansas. We made a display out of egg cartons, and labeled each rock so we would remember what it was. An old bauxite mine for Arkansas is very near our town. Aluminum foil is made from bauxite. We also drew volcanoes and used a homemade scratch test kit to identify rocks we had collected.

Plans are also in the works for a Cub Mobile. The race is in May, and our last car is showing wear. So we will make one last car to race (and hopefully win)!!!

APRIL Craftsman

We have been hard at work this month. Most of our meetings have been devoted to building our cub mobile. We've done alot of hamering and turning of wrenches.

In between this, we've been working on our naturalist badge. With our Den Chief's help, we caught some crawdads and a worm in a nearby creek. We tried to feed the worm to the crawdads, but they didn't eat it. We also talked about fish, and will be watching birds. It's spring, so there should be lots of things to see!

One other thing we did was make leather key chains for our Mom's for mother's day. (shhh, that's a surprise!) We did this to work on our craftsman badge, and we'll do some other things next month.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. We're singing the song at this month's Pack Meeting. The song is Scout Sox, it's never been sung at a Pack Meeting. Our Den Chief taught it to us, and it's really funny. It's a Boy Scout son!!

This is the Den Leader's Corner. We have a GREAT Webelos Patrol. It's great because the Webelos all follow Do Your Best, and the parents are very involved. Remember, you get out of something what you put into it. Always put in 100%, and you will reap the benefits of your efforts.
