In 2002, the
HUGE
load of mushroom compost that we added to all the
gardens last year has made a noticeable improvement
in the soil texture, the plants are very happy, and
our GardenZeitgeist is off to a great start!

Let's take a tour around the yard. We'll
begin by entering from the front yard.
|
|
[RIGHT]
As we walk along the
narrow path from the front yard breath in
the heady fragrance of the tall cedars on
your left and notice the perriwinkle
border against the house. Up ahead, "Lady"
is waiting to welcome us.

[LEFT]
We enter through the
gate, brushing past a beautiful mockorange
on the left (that is hiding a
cranesbill
geranium) and a japanese yew on
the right

[LEFT]
Once inside the gate,
notice the hosta surrounding the base of
the sugar maple tree. Just past the orange
daylillies are three azalea bushes
surrounding the birdbath (that is just
hiding a white
columbine.) Further along, a
spectacular verigated
wigelia bush is in full
bloom

[ABOVE]
After the verigated wigelia is a small blue
hydrange and, following around the black spruce
tree on the left, we see a white peony and
lavender
iris just beginning to bloom. Further
back is a spectacular bridal wreath spiarea in full
bloom.
|

|
[ABOVE]
Past the bridal wreath spiarea, the hosta garden
begins - starting with 'elephant ears' hosta,
golden hosta and verigated hosta (hidden by the
blue spruce trees)

This view shows the hosta garden
just past the bridal wreath spiarea and the
entranceway to the 'hidden walkway.'
