To all & Whereas & Now Know ye That I the said Edward Diggs Esq. give and grant unto Mr. Richard Rice Four hundred Acres of Land Situate lying and being in the County of Northumberland and on the South West side of Mattapony River, bounding North Easterly upon the Land of Robert Bradshaw and John Bradshaw North Westerly upon the said Land and the Land of Lawrence Dameron and a main Swamp being a branch of Broad Creek South Easterly upon the main Woods above the head of Land of Mr. Thomas Broughton & running from the first mentioned Lands, three hundred and twenty Poles Parallel to the Main Swamp for Length into the Woods.  The said Land being due unto the Mr. Richard Rice by and for the Transportation of Eight Persons & To Have and To Hold & yielding & Paying & Which Payments & Dated the 28th of January 1656 ......
