MARTHA JOANNA WILIAMS DRAKE was born December 26, 1794 and married JOHN
ARRINGTON, January 28, 1812. She was the daughter of JOHN HODGES DRAKE,
M.D., borh July 29, 1767, in Nash Co., NC, and died in Auburn, AL, December
11, 1859. He married about FRANCES WILLIAMS, daughter of Major JOHN WILLIAMS
of Revolutionary War and his wife, MRS BUSTIN of Halifax Co, NC. She was born
in Halifax 1776 and died Feb. 184o.
JOHN HODGES DRAKE was the son of JAMES DRAKE and his second wife,
Mrs. HARTWELL HODGES DAVIS, daughter of BENJAMIN HODGES and his wife,
CONSTANCE GOODRICH.
JAMES, by his first wife, SOPHIA VALENTINE, was father of ALBRITTAIN DRAKE
who married RUTH COLLINS....

NOTE: John Hodges DRAKE, father-in-law of John D. ARRINGTON, was a
half-brother to Albrittain DRAKE who lived briefly in Wilson
County, Tenn before moving on to Kentucky, and a cousin of the
Britton DRAKE who lived 1820 Wilson Co, Tennessee.

Albrittain and Ruth Collins DRAKE were parents of Sophia Valentine DRAKE
who married Wiley ALFORD. The senior Drakes moved to Wilson County, Tenn.,
but moved on to KY leaving Sophia and Wiley in Wilson County. The rest of
the family went to KY, with the exception of her eldest brother, JOHN, who
stayed in NC. A younger brother, JAMES PERRY DRAKE, then moved on from KY
to Indiana where he eventually settled in Indianapolis and was owner of the
Drake Hotel there. He later served as Treasurer of the state....and during
the Civil War, he took his family back to TN, to live with the ALFORDs for
the duration of the war. His wife, PRISCILLA, was a BUELL, and she, their
daughters, and her own immediate family were pro-North. JAMES and the one
son, JAMES, JR., were pro-South.
Britton DRAKE (who married Hearty BRIDGES) was a cousin of the above
ALBRITTAIN DRAKE. They lived in Wilson County, Tennessee.
