Quebrada Quintero (low path) - Details 2

If you are at track start point...

Ranger's House - Cota MilNow walk along that narrow corridor, passing under Cota Mil. After a short stairway you'll get to Sabas Nieves first ranger's house at Av. Boyacá (Cota Mil) level.

There are rest rooms in the house, but use them just if strictly necessary because they are not very hygienic. Also, they usually lack of electricity and toilet paper.

When you're out of corridor, you'll see right in front of you (northwest) a path that leads to Sabas Nieves and Quebrada Quintero (high path). There is another route at your right that will take you Quebrada Quintero, but using the low path. This is the one you have to take.

Take a look at Ranger's House Map - Cota Mil.

You have to know that there is a certain schedule to pass through this point:

  • Monday to friday: From 5:30 am to 7:00 pm.
  • Weekends: From 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.

There is a parking lot, but it serves only to Inparques and La Electricidad de Caracas personnel. That is how I don't recommend you to get here by car using Cota Mil.

Quebrada Quintero - low pathHere is a picture of road you have to take, and take note that this part runs along a canal (about 50 m - 160 ft - long).

In this area you'll find different kind of foods: Cakes, vegetarian hamburgers, ice creams, fruit salads, yogurt, falafel and sandwiches. Also lots of drinks: Orange, passion fruit, banana, carrot, pine apple, kiwi and watermelon juices, plus mixes, and native "papelon con limon".

Prices range between Bs. 250 for ice creams and Bs. 1300 for salads. A big glass of juice costs about Bs. 650.

In case you take the other road (Sabas Nieves/Qda. Quintero high path), you'll find at your left CECODA ("Centro de Conservación y Defensa Ambiental Sabas Nieves") billboard. This group offers visitors free excursions and workshops, and takes care of some cleaning and maintenance of park areas. Check out this billboard, it has some interesting information.

Low path to Quebrada Quintero, after crossing creekWhen you get at the end of canal, you'll find Quebrada Quintero. At left there is a rocky pass. Be careful, because rocks were polished by water.

From now on, the track is a little messy, but you have to keep a north/northwest heading during 75 m. There you'll find a clearer path turning to north.
