Holy Wood to be reviewed soon. In the wake of the release of MM's "Long Hard Road Out of Hell" autobiography, Paul Bromfield, a british journalist hosts this presentation, & offers accurate, unbiased commentaries on the Reverend Manson's tours, recordings, history, & antics. These commentaries serve as introductions to media clips, mostly comprised of a radio conversation with DJs "Kevin" & "Bean" ~ a radio broadcast I had listened to when originally aired in Los Angeles ~ still yet another incident in which I happened to be impelled, if I will, towards tuning in there, which was particularly remarkable, considering I do not care for that program otherwise.
Most notably, Track 5, which features the segment thereon when Manson spoke about his meeting with Dr. LaVey. Manson appropriately described Doctor LaVey as another Nietchzie, Voltaire, Freud, etc. A criticism towards narrator Mr. Bromfield, however, was his incorrect mention of Dr. Anton LaVey as "Anthony LaVey". The 100-page booklet contains a mention of Manson's meeting with Dr. LaVey:
Overall, this audio documentary is very well done, & proves to be a resource for your personal records. A must for the Manson fan.
Of note, besides "The Long Hard Road Out of Hell" by Rev. Marilyn Manson, "Dissecting Marilyn Manson" by Rev. Gavin Baddeley is also recommended.
Antichrist Superstar "Sick". "Twisted". "Vile". The angel has spread his scabbed wings,
& begun to sing unto the earth. Let the masses hear these tales of perversion,
debauchery, megalomania, blasphemy, & fury.
No other church could claim the likes of Marilyn Manson as a priest, than The
Church of Satan. He's spreading the gospel of Satan according to Marilyn Manson
unto the delighted & the befuddled alike. May the ignorant tremble, & may the
wise be entertained!
Antichrist Superstar is an aggressive, vengeful opus, riddled with seemingly
psychopathic intervals of creative musical illusions, reflected from the
phantasmagoric entrails of Marilyn Manson's mind. From alpha to omega, this
album is a wild ride into the depths of refined lunacy.
This album contains memorable little tunes such as "Man That You Fear", "Angel
With The Scabbed Wings", "The Reflective God", & of course, "Antichrist Superstar".
The lyrics throughout the album are interrelated, keeping with the title theme.
Pop neo-culture is blasted asunder, along with mediocrity.
There are several interesting RUMORS about Marilyn Manson, such as:
Individuals who are free-thinking, artistically expressive, & above all, creative,
are prime cadidates to be priests. Those that influence the world, those who
manipulate the flocks & herds.
Antichrist Superstar is filled with plenty of aesthetic terrorism, including
the cover photo where he resembles "Regan" from THE EXORCIST at her best. And
there's PLENTY of music for your money.
Even if the music was not to your liking, then give it as a gift to your nephew
or niece, or perhaps the paperboy.
For all of the assumptions people have made about the Antichrist Superstar, from the rumours about his alleged self-mutilation to facillitate auto-fellatio, to his meeting withe The High Priest of The Church of Satan, this tome sheds a steeley light on all of that, & much more. Highly personal & previously secret expreriences are revelaed herein. Some may want to use this autobiographical expose' as the 'proof' of their mean-spirited prognosis of MM's "abnormalities". While others, his fans, admirers, & compatriots will be able to appreciate the candor in which it was written.
Marilyn Manson goes from a runt-like insecure child, through the transformation of diabolical growth, & finally unto, as Dr. LaVey said, "...a being who can change the world."; Marilyn Manson has plunged the depths of the abyss, & scaled the heights of the pit, & beyond. Infuriating & bewildering many along the way. He has made his mark.
The book is written in a Dantean-style of descending the bolgias of Hell, which catalogues this evilution well. Of special note: The really nice picture of Rev. Manson & Dr. LaVey.
Marilyn Manson Here we get to see the Reverend's exploits on & off stage, as well as those of xian zealots venting their repressions in various convaluted forms, experiencing eustress as they picket & gripe, attempting to thwart MM's & his fans' first Ammendment rights. Witness their weak, impotent hypocrisy first hand, as they unknowingly & inevitably boost MM's infamy & music sales. The fools. The footage herein is primarily that from the "Antichrist Superstar" tour, performing tracks from "Portrait of An American Family", "Smells Like Children", & of course, the most misanthropic "Antichrist Superstar" . We witness Rev. Manson's antics, & that of his bandmates, in debauchery & rage. At one point, he blasphemes probably one of the most venerated symbols of the U.S., probably as a statement against oppressive 'authority' figures. He also tears pages from the moldy babble, mocking the white wolves as the tyrants they tend to be, but would never admit to it. Indeed. And to be despised by the CORRECT people is truly a great compliment.
God is in the TV
All of Rev. Manson's artful video productions wrapped up in this neat package. No more scrounging for empty space on your tapes! The extra footage towards the end really manages to conjure the concert experience, or shall we say, ritual.....Indeed, the overall depiction is reminiscient of a demon manifesting before covens of witches to celebrate the Sabbath. Quite impressive.
Overall, a nicely made documentary. The only dissappointments are 1, Reverand Manson is not interviewed, & 2, there's no mention of The Doctor anywhere, but there are images included which are shown on flyers. The Doctor's image from "Satan Wantes You", & the Church of Satan "recruitment" poster are included. An image of the Doctor is also included in an introductory graphic, apparently spliced together from "Invocation of My Demon Brother", which was a Kenneth Anger production. This "rockumentary" showcases the development & evolution of Marilyn Manson from "MM & The Spooky Kids", "Amboogalard", & others, as they are spawned from the Florida music scene. No xoids to speak of, only admirers & good-natured critics. "Missi", MM's ex, speaks at length about some of the occurances behind the scenes, & some history with Jack Off Jill is discussed. Along with her, are a host of others who provide some interesting insights into this iconoclastic figure. "Demystifying the Devil" really demystifies nothing, as all the content is already discussed in Rev. Manson's book "Long Hard Road Out Of Hell" already. Basically, this is that book put to film, for the most part.
