![]() Garande (12bp-71 AP) |
Phi Garande, a true warrior poet, was known by all as one of the youngest, but respectable of military governors during the closing years of Chaosis Trident. He was one of the first to begin organizing the mass exodus into the catacombs, and he turned hundreds of thousands of volunteers into officials who spent those months systematically mapping, marking and assigning caves and pocket areas to the steady flow of incoming residents. Those volunteers, and the droves of eager-to-be helpful Ferratuus, were the first to "settle a cavern", which soon was turned into a central station of sorts. Groups from all quarters and genders met there to make announcements, file accusations, register new births or trybal alignments, etc. Garande (how he did this is still unknown) turned his trybe's cavern into what amounted to a central government complex that sprawled efficiently through the middle of living quarters and public facilities. A trybal's home, during certain hours standard for ALL dwellers, would be available to in comers. This precedent is followed to this day. (Garande died of natural causes in 71 AP. Due to crowd capacities underground, only 300,000 were allowed to attend the funeral. The promise that a full public national memorial was fulfilled on 104 AP. A rough half of the populace of then-32 million people attended). |
![]() Montgurai, Corg (06bp - 52ap) |
Corg Montgurai, a warrior poet and brilliant strategist, saw whole armies rally to his side upon word of the exodus. His camp swelled from thousands to nearly a million within a few short weeks, and he crushed calls from many lieutenants and younger war chiefs who called the mass flee a ripe opportunity to "crush the continent". He, instead, directed them to task out the orderly procession of the populace to quarters underground. He and Garande forged an uncompromising friendship in those early days that lasted to Last Day. Montgurai formed the first "**" units on the best of the best, a tradition hammered into new soldiers today. (Montgurai died shortly after L'Shayd's disappearance in 52 AP, having lapsed first into a numbing sadness and eventually into coma. His death was accompanied by a ritual guttural roar from his loyal troops so loud that Garande feared the Udias would fall in around them. His body was dropped into Abyss, the Udias' only pit without end.) |
![]() Ulympi'ades (012bp-41ap) |
Ulympi'ades, a renowned scientist and chemist allied with Clan D'Fources during the aftermaths of the Chaosis Trident. He carried with him into the Udias a reputation as a man with keen insights into solving complex problems and a curiousity into anything unknown. He was the first to chemically break down minos, thus allowing it to be manipulated into multiple uses, and engineered the construction and maintenance of massive underground power plants and food harvesters. Historians today say he was also ruthless in his pursuit for knowledge, and was reputedly responsible for the murders of two opposing scientists. He was the first of the Horns d'Udias to ask Montgurai for an armed round-the-clock squad of "protectors". (Ulympi'ades desire to keep himself secluded from the mass populace contributes to the mystery that surrounds his death. He was found dead in his den in the yahr 41, the victim of a reported nyro-nectric nerve break in the front lobe of his brain. His death brought few mourners, but affected the scientific community for yahrs. While many still wonder what wonders Ulimpi'ades would have conjured if he'd lived out his full life term, 'Archives' has uncovered documents, though, that hint at a plot to murder the scientist. The deaths of eight Ferratuus - two being Ulmpi'ades "protectors" with the other six from the House of L'Shayd - remain open to this day...) |
![]() L'Shayd Gambyt (09bp- 51 ap) |
L'Shayd Gambyt, a medicine woman unnoticed before the Age of Udias. She was renowned, though, for her infrequent speech that nonetheless carried a heavy message with each word. Her ability to find lost children in dark catacombs and apparently bottomless pits garnered her a reputation for seeing "light where there was none." She offered counsel and prayers for the needy or sick, but only came to head a House power in her golden years. All Ferratuus, including Garande and Montgurai, stepped aside if in her path. She eventually became the living representative of hope and self worship. (The "March of L'Shayd" documents the death of the medicine monk, which happened in about 51 AP. Panic and fighting in several isolated quarters broke out over cramped living areas. L'Shayd and her people attempted to quell the hysteria, but became entangled in the more brutal riot tactics of Montgurai and his **. L'Shayd and her monks met the brunt of the Brave House's men in the Central Ellipse of the Udias, and prepared to battle. L'Shayd, according to 'Archives' legend, thrust herself upon Montgurai's Honor Blade in self sacrifice, and said "Shall we rebut with blood, or spirit?" to a stunned Montgurai. With the Blade upraised and in front of the thousands present, she wandered alone into the sections of the Udias that led to topsoil and The Plague. Her body and Montgurai's Honor Blade have not yet been found). |
![]() Hoamur, Lars (21bp-57ap ) |
Lars Hoamur, a scholar and doctor who went to work immediately following the exodus setting up learning stations in every quarter. He was a key figure in keeping clan and trybal teachings alive while pushing curriculums away from prejudicial doctrines. As education systems began to spawn, he was also charged by Garande to organize the numerous health facilities cropping up. Hoamur's initial moves towards integrating the curriculums into a mass education system was not eagerly greeted at first, but he lived long enough to see the idea take a firm root in Ferratu culture. His medical knowledge, while general, was most efficiently used not in ER (Effective Remedy) centers, but in the establishment of a central medical area. Isolated physicians working in pairs for only a dozen or so people were brought in by Hoamur into a "medical collective". Doctors from all quarters shared knowledge with each other, and the resulting medical breakthroughs in the first 30 yahrs saved millions of lives over the span of the following centuries. (Hoamur died of natural causes in 57 AP). |
![]() Ryad Scyros (06bp-49ap) |
Ryad Scyros, a woman born on - and named after - Scios sub-continent, was led by sheer curiosity; and was later included as a Horn d'Udias since her exploits took place around the same time as the Caucus. Her people, still living in exile as privateers on Scios and the islands of Lago, and Angelha, did not believe the tales of an invisible killer. They had, however, heard of the exodus to the Udias and were preparing to sack the inland countryside. The still young Scyros, using her renowned beauty and keen analytical mind, persuaded the people to, instead, "explore" the abandoned villages and clan centers (under the guise that they would later return to more properly loot the area). She encouraged them to accurately map areas as they traversed. Instead of looting as they went, the teams were prompted to take clan records, documents, pictures or drawing of any kind. Scyros reportedly told them "A man's history and heritage is more valuable than the purest of pearls." (Her curiosity replaced her people's greed, and when she died in 49 AP to drowning while crossing to the mainland, the trybe swore to return to their disappeared countrymen their lost personal histories.) |
![]() Se'Finch, Scot (3 - 66ap) |
Scot Se'Finch, a former monk whose family was killed in a merchantile dispute, was one of the most just and respected of the underground Ferratuus. He was also one of the most lonely. He had fought and killed his family's slayers, but not with rod or shaft. He used logical arguments and an undeniable record of facts and witnesses to justify his case. After initially shrugging off Garande's offer of cooperation, Se'Finch and a group of hand-picked men and women worked tirelessly those first decades in the Udias as moderators and speakers for truth. His word was beyond reproach, and his ruling was accepted by all. His challenge to personally duel any man or woman found guilty of a violent crime was met only twice. The last proved fatal in the end. (Se'Finch was killed in 66 AP while dueling the evil Lord Rahxenor, whose following had committed multiple murders for power. Se'Finch died the the day before Rahxenor's convction. The lord contested the verdict, and later demanded the same trial by combat that had taken Se'Finch's life. Garande, an old man by this time, personally took Rahxenor's head.) |
![]() Mantolov, Regvek (020bp - 49ap) |
Regvek Mantolov, a merchant who was recognized as the founder of the Central Ellipse (the main bartering area and market square that later spawned industry and trade). He acted for hundreds of thousands of Ferratuus as a banker, accountant, advisor, agent, and broker. He became close counsel to Garande and his House of administration, as he recognized the important of economic development and culture. He was the first to see the market potential of minos, and pioneered underwater minos mining. He and his people instituted the first national currency indicator and unit, which allowed all Ferratuus, for the first time in their history, the opportunity to barter, market, and sell goods without the need to trade goods. (Mantolov was killed during a seismic event on 49 AP. His funeral caused all businesses, markets, and commodities to close down, as workers and employers joined hands as a memorial. The date is still celebrated as the three-day Carnival holiday, where government shuts down allowing all Ferratuus to go and do whatever they like. The less lirpa you make as income, the more GovOps gives you for Carnival, as Regvek would have wanted.) |
![]() Mohlinar (03bp-78ap) |
Mohlinar, or "Mohlinar the Merry" as he was known to mass populations, was the last of the Horns d'Udias to pass on. For the first years of the Udias, he had been tireless in traveling to remote quarters and sectors to entertain the isolated populace. He carried games from one cavern to another and organized massive inter-cave games to keep the masses together and happy. He devised the first set of moving picture films, which he starred in, of course, and droves of Ferratu followed him as his pleasant nature was a constant magnet. He was kept very busy sending out - and accompanying - teams of artists from one House to another to keep cultures inter-mixed and creatively flowing. (Mohlinar died of natural causes in 78ap). |
