Tier of
RECREATION, the ARTS,
and ENTERTAINMENT

Rector d'sair Ungar

"Where inspiration and interpretation meet"

The tier itself is rather new, having only been formed about 40 yahrs ago. It merged into one body via the former Tier of Arts and Recreation, and Offyce of Entertainment (which was severely undermanned and without leadership). EDIC and Worship, also, played heavy-handed politics in trying to control the modes of entertainment open to Ferratuus (EDIC wanted bigger budgets for productions and gawdy forms of recreation, while Worship pushed for more spiritual types of diversion and more emphasis put on religious expression through art). Eventually, elements from all sides were put together and a central staff was created to make up RecArt.

As the name emplies, RecArt is responsible for the creative side of Ferrata. The fine arts, cinema, and sporting events all fall under the authority of RecArt, which still works closely with Worship to maintain, promote, and preserve undeveloped open land (although for different reasons, of course).

RECREATION"
Considering Ferrata's history of warfare, recreation is and always will be an important part of normal contemporary life.

One major mission of the Offyce of Recreation is to protect and preserve unusual scenic, scientific, historical, recreational, and natural areas of Ferrata, to continually provide such additional park areas and sporting facilities, to make these areas accessible to the public for recreational, educational, scientific and other uses consistent with their protection and preservation, and to encourage and support tourism and related economic activity within the Directorate. The division provides diverse recreational and educational opportunities for all visitors to area parks, trails, historic sites, and state-owned sporting areas, and encourages responsible stewardship and appreciation of its irreplaceable resources

Sports are another major source of preferred distraction. While most of the nations of the Vex play football (soccer), Ferratuus prefer games involving more hand-eye coordination than sheer athleticism. Foiling is one of the most popular of sports, as two to eight opponents face each other in rutual-like prosecution with thin but dangerous epees or rapiers.
RokRacing is also popular, especially in the younger circles. Participants use mino-fueled projectiles to propel themselves at high speeds down a high-to-low 32-mile track. RokRacing safety measures have improved drastically in recent years, cutting down in sport-oriented fatalities to barely four a yahr.

spectators and photographers. Photojournalists are attempting
to take pix of the infamous Mt. Krown Outlands Rok Speedway
races, where rules are all but revoked.

On the quieter side, Mates is a popular table-sized game involving stretegy and skill, and the ability to move game pieces about the surface without allowing your primary pieces from being captured. The goal is to protect the king and queen pieces. At the players' disposal are a slew of various pieces for combat and espionage for defense and attack.

THE ARTS
Promoting artistic and creative expression from youths is a fundamental goal of RecArt. Children are encouraged to draw, sing, write, or act at the pre-adolescent age without priority. The classic works of such authors as the horn Molinar, Carde, and Anne d'uzeli are known imtimately to youths by their tenth yahr. The tier, however, tries to avoid influencing the creative output of Ferratuus. As a government agency, it would not be publicly popular to try and intervene on the creative process artists go through while creating freely and with ease of mind.

Music, as it is almost everywhere, is universal in its variations and styles. While synthesized operatas and sonatas are the call of the day today, playing the native Amora Reed in chorus (as was done during the Udias) is still popular with the elder quarters of Ferratu society. Youths, mostly in their early adult years, lean more towards the grander (and much louder) concertos. Music education, officially handled by EduHelth, is promoted heavily by RecArt. Trybal musical influences are as varied at times as squares and circles, and RecArt organizes national music safaris featuring trybal musicians to visit different regions of the country. This not only allows the trybes to showcase and demonstrate their own musical influences and skills to other trybes, but exposes them to other styles outside their region.

The theatre is one of those areas RecArt tries not to influence. While the tier is used to help arrange national safaris, many private sector organizations hold interests in the profits of live shows and artist appearances.

ENTERTAINMENT
As one might observe, all of the recreational items and areas discussed above result, somehow, in the entertainment of the masses. Through expression and performance and display, all these things are a form of amusement and diversion.

As far as cinema goes, RecArt works with the EDIC on marketting and financing filmfares. Worship also tries, sometimes successfully, to have a hand in what films are made to ensure unnecessary pornography and violence is excluded. Films are made in the Directorate's universal language, but many projects are still made using native trybal tongues. While those films are not as nationally successful, they are abundant in creative storyline and character development and remain a staple of the Ferratu culture.
